By July 1, 2024, virtually all California employers will be required to establish a comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (“WVPP”) in accordance with SB 553 and California Labor Code Section 6401.9. This plan is aimed at identifying and rectifying workplace hazards and will operate alongside employers’ existing Injury, Illness & Prevention Programs. California employers will have the flexibility to integrate the plan within their existing programs or maintain it as a separate document. #Honigman #LaborLaw #EmploymentLaw

Under SB 553, codified in Labor Code Section 6401.9, covered employers must maintain a workplace violence prevention plan (WVPP), either as a stand-alone plan or built into an existing injury and illness prevention plan (IIPP). Employers will also be required to implement and train employees on the WVPP by the July 1 deadline. Employers are advised to start taking steps towards compliance.
