What would possess a tech head, an ex-CFO, an successful businessperson, and a university lecturer to attend the same class? 😳 Coaching. 😝 I told this class I don’t know if I’m teaching them good coaching skills. 😓 There’s some controversy around whether the ICF standard constitute an ideal coaching methodology. In particular, there are those who question whether it’s too outcome driven. Such discussions are above my pay grade. The whole issue of whether ICF competencies are the gold standard 🏆 or not will have to be decided by the coaching powers that be. All I am is a humble coach trainer. 💁🏻♀️ Nonetheless, I teach with an entirely clear conscience. Of all my coaching certifications, I’ve found ICF to be the most valuable 💰 in terms of getting into the coaching profession. For those who are looking to contribute to this world, coaching is a second career of choice. 👍 Coaches serve a real need in the world, help others grow, earn a decent living, and are mostly able to work flexibly. How is my coaching journey going? It all began with becoming a certified NLP Coach and Practitioner, blending what I learned with my own life experiences. 📚 Along the way, I crafted my unique approach to learning from resources that resonated with me. When I joined the course, I thought I’d be learning just more about coaching. But what I found was so much deeper—a journey of self-discovery, new insights, and a clearer understanding of the next steps I needed to take. 🌱 And now, I stand here as a Certified Professional Coach, with my sights set on earning my ICF accreditation. Grateful to Coach Haris Syed Ph.D., MCC, Nanditha Krishnan, PCC, Ritu Gaur (ICF - PCC) and the entire team of Coach Transformation Academy. 🌻 But this journey wasn’t a solo one, and I want to take a moment to recognize my fellow participant coaches who shared this path with me. What is Coaching? The International Coaching Federation (ICF) describes coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” But what does this look like in practice? At KJE Coaching, we offer a variety of programs tailored to individuals’ unique needs and even within this there is flexibility and cross over. This customisation is one of the greatest strengths of coaching—it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. As a certified Master Coach, I know when I’m actively coaching and when I’m not, and I ‘d like to think that my regular check in with clients shapes what happens next. In some cases, it may be useful to incorporate training resources, questionnaires, or structured frameworks to help clients achieve their goals. Additionally, other tools and techniques, including those developed within the field of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), can also be valuable in certain situations. My goal is always aligned with my clients; their success is my success. Life is full of choices, but when I look back on my journey as a coach, I can see now that I made 3 key decisions that brought me to this point today. Hindsight is always 20/20, but it's cool to look back and see, right?  So here are the 3 key decisions that shaped my coaching path:   1️⃣ Undertaking my coach training at Henley Business School: It was a privilege to spend time learning and reflecting with some other amazing coaches, many of whom I still talk with now. The insights, knowledge, and camaraderie gained during that training have been invaluable in shaping my approach as a coach.   2️⃣ Undertaking additional training in Nancy Kline's ‘Time to Think’ and Systems and Constellation Coaching with John Whittington, along with my NLP training: These additional certifications expanded my toolkit and deepened my understanding of various coaching methodologies and the differences that they can make to my clients. These trainings have allowed me to offer my clients a broader range of techniques and perspectives to support their growth and development.   3️⃣ My lovely clients: Sometimes, the niche finds you. It was through working with my clients that I discovered my passion for helping businesses grow online. Their requests for assistance in this area led me to focus my efforts and expertise, and it's been an incredible journey ever since. I'm grateful to each and every client who has trusted me with their goals and dreams.   Reflecting on these key decisions brings a sense of gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead. Coaching is a constant learning and evolving process, and I'm thrilled to be on this path, supporting individuals and businesses as they navigate their own journeys.   So, here's to embracing the choices we make, the knowledge we acquire, and the clients who inspire us.
