The Union Cabinet cleared a proposal to bolster biotechnology-based manufacturing, called BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) Policy. The Bio-E3 Policy 2024 aims to boost high-performance bio-manufacturing in India. It is a strategic initiative by the Indian government to boost the bio-economy through enhanced bio-manufacturing, sustainable practices, and innovation in biotechnology. It focuses on improving energy efficiency, environmental sustainability and fostering collaboration between industry, academia, and government. The policy also emphasizes the development of skilled human resources and creating a robust regulatory framework to position India as a global leader in the bio-economy. The policy supports the establishment of Bio-manufacturing & Bio-AI hubs, fostering innovation-driven R&D, and entrepreneurship. Additionally, it aligns with national initiatives like ‘Net Zero’ and promotes a circular bioeconomy, aiming to create skilled jobs and position India as a leader in sustainable, green growth.
