I like staying involved in the local tech community, so I go to a lot of "networking events." The majority of attendees at these things are either founders or investors (I am neither). Founders talk about how great their companies are doing. The VCs talk about how great their portcos are. No one is outwardly bragging, but it's generally understood that you keep the tone positive. But like... they can't all be doing great, right? That's not how the math maths in venture. So how do I hear about their challenges? How do I hear about their "failures" (ie. learnings)? How do I learn more so that I can be supportive and collaborative, and we can solve interesting problems together? What rooms are these conversations happening in?

Everyone had a story to tell and something to add, and I eagerly await next year’s event." ✅ Indeed. The depth and variety of experiences was mind blowing and humbling at the same time. I would argue that the entrepreneurial spirit is of an order of magnitudes greater than the non open-source approach because the financing and go-to-market is not scripted at all. Fascinating. Before I got into venture, the most powerful thing about going to startup events, was surrounding myself with people who wanted the same things I did. Still some of my closest friends. To find a co-founder takes time, meeting tons of people, and, dare I say, patience (...no we don't believe in that). Still, at every founder event you'll find valuable relationships: peers, mentors, sounding boards, and emotional support buddies.
