🥚LinkedIn usually celebrates work anniversaries, but today I’m celebrating a different kind of anniversary—a role anniversary! It's Engineer vs. Marketing, and it's been this way for 27 years. 🥚😂 🎉 To commemorate, I’m sharing a comparison of how an engineer (Peter - meticulous, precise methodical ) and a marketer (me - spontaneous, creative, agile approach) prepare soft-boiled eggs. Yep – it’s been a fascinating journey and continues to be so. Are your roles different too? How do you challenge and feed off each other's strengths? #Anniversary #LoveAndLaughter #EngineerVsMarketer #RoleAnniversary #SoftBoiledEggs

Happy 3-year work anniversary to me and Umesh!!! We started on the same day at The Circulate Initiative. I still remember. There were only the four of us (including Michael and Ellen) working to build this small but with BIG ambition orgnization. Definitely not easy. Fast-forward to now we’re a team of 11 plus two advisors ie Ellen and Chever. We almost tripled in size. We had an impactful last year. If you’ve not read our 2023 Annual Report, you’re missing out. See comment for report link. What a journey it has been! Here are my three main reflections: 1. Umesh and I have a unique bond It’s not 100% the same as “work wife / husband” like how Margarita and I used to call each other. We started working at Water.org the same day. We knew each other well. Maybe we can call it “work brothers” as we went through a lot of successes and challenges together. Umesh is someone I can always trust and count on. 2. I got to master leading from behind The main goals of my role as Director of Operations and Strategy are to ensure the org runs smoothly and the team has all the tools they need to thrive. It sounds simple but requires a ton of work behind the scene to make it happen. As a driver personality type person it can be challenging sometime to battle with my own tendency. So for me to achieve the goals with limited resources, I’m proud of myself. 3. An organization can be as good as its team The Circulate Initiative is where it is today not because of me or one individual. It’s from the collective effort of us as a team. Our team has one of the most diverse and talented people I’ve worked with. Three people mentioned above plus Annerieke, Madhushree, Shamina, Santwana, Priscilla, Juline, Nurul Aisyah Suwandi, and Devi. As I observed the team from my Human Resources hat, it’s amazing to see how well each member’s strengths compliments the other. That’s when magic happens! I’m taking the time to write this post to celebrate my career milestone. Now I want to hear yours. What are you grateful for currently? It could be either from work or personal life. #teamwork #growth #leadership

Last weekend was extra special as I celebrated my birthday, surrounded by friends, family, and an unexpected surprise from my incredible company. Their thoughtful gesture reminded me of the power of appreciation in the workplace. Employers, take note: it's crucial to remember that behind every task completed and every goal achieved, there are humans—not robots—pouring their time, effort, and passion into their work. Recognizing and acknowledging their efforts isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a game-changer. Here are a few tips to foster a culture of appreciation and support in your workplace: 1. Celebrate Milestones: Birthdays, work anniversaries, and personal achievements are opportunities to show your team they're valued beyond their professional contributions. 2. Open Communication: Create a safe space for employees to voice their ideas, concerns, and feedback. Feeling heard fosters a sense of belonging and encourages loyalty. 3. Invest in Growth: Provide opportunities for learning and development. When employees see that you're invested in their growth, they're more likely to stay committed and engaged. 4. Lead by Example: Show appreciation yourself and encourage team members to do the same. A culture of gratitude starts from the top down. Remember, when your team knows they're valued and supported, their dedication and loyalty will naturally follow suit. Together, we can create workplaces where everyone thrives. #mapway30dayschallenge #mapway #employeeappreciation

So, what's the best way to celebrate my two-year work anniversary? As per tradition, I'm sharing a throwback photo from last year (my eyes are half-closed — typical 😂) and a few lessons learned from my new role over the last year (*without* the assistance of AI or mentioning the word 'resolution'). Here are my three: 1. People before prompts. AI and emerging tech are achieving amazing things, but true success still comes down to talented people and a supportive culture — I'm truly lucky to work in a team with both. All those smiling faces in the photo below (along with some missing team members) make my job better and more rewarding daily and teach me things that tech never could. 2. Optimism is an underrated superpower. 2023 was filled with global conflict and climate-led challenges. Combined with higher content bombardment on all channels, it made it tough to stay constantly positive and productive on all fronts. This last year taught me just how powerful optimistic, make-a-plan people are, especially when they're tackling the huge, complex challenges that affect us all. I'm hoping to learn plenty from these positive problem-solvers this year. 3. Investing in the art of asking better questions. One of the best ways to create insightful content is to find the smartest people in their fields (Jacobs is bursting at the seams with them) and then ask them the right questions. As Michael Easter says, the best interviewers are like chess masters; they're not routinely following a linear checklist. They use open-ended and follow-up questions to unlock conversation flow and earn better insights. This year, I'm working on my interview chess skills. Here's to more anniversaries and adventures with this team and, hopefully, some photos with my eyes fully open. #ourjacobs #people #marketing #contentmarketing #culture

🎉 Today marks my 5-year work anniversary! 🎉 The photo below is from that time—feeling a bit apprehensive and uncertain, but ready to step into the unknown. Five years ago, I reminded myself not to be afraid to take the next step, and I’m so glad I listened to my own advice. No regrets, only growth! My journey at SteppingStones has been an incredible one, filled with growth, challenges, and rewarding experiences. Over the past five years, I've had the opportunity to work with some amazing colleagues tackling a variety of projects. From navigating the highs and lows of a global pandemic to embracing remote work, we adapted to a rapidly changing work environment together, truly taking all of the changes that came our way in stride. It certainly made us all more resilient. These experiences have pushed me to grow both professionally and personally, expanding my skill set and broadening my perspective on the evolving world of work. I am truly thankful for the support, collaboration, and opportunities I've had along the way. The journey has truly been fun, with lots of adventures. Whilst this milestone is a reminder of how far I’ve come, it is also my motivation to keep learning, growing, and pushing boundaries. Here’s to the next chapter—looking forward to what the future holds! 🚀 #WorkAnniversary #Gratitude #Growth #Milestones #SteppingStones
