Recently I attempted my CFA Level 1 exam and the experience has been awsome! From the phase of being an average student, phobic of numbers, to breaking the barriers, challenging myself to take a lot more on my plate than what I can even digest, has eventually enhanced my apetite over the past couple of years. This journey has really been transformative. Talking about CFA Program, it is renowned for providing a robust foundation in finance, covering topics ranging from ethics and professional standards to advanced investment strategies. Through my preparatory phase, I developed a deeper appreciation for investment analysis, portfolio management, and financial modeling—tools that are instrumental in navigating the intricate world of finance. Financial modeling, specifically, empowers analysts to scrutinize complex financial data, enabling them to make informed predictions and strategic decisions. The CFA Program has not only bolstered my technical proficiency but also fostered a shift in my thought processes. Exciting news to share! I am proud to announce that I have passed my CFA® level III exam, marking the completion of the CFA® testing curriculum. As someone with a science background who is newer to the finance industry, I embarked on this journey on December 4, 2020, with the goal of leveling up and standing out in such a competitive industry. This program has been challenging, but it has given me more than I could have dreamed of. On top of the knowledge within the curriculum, it has also developed the character building blocks within me to be successful in any endeavor. From sacrifice and due diligence to sweat equity and perseverance, I came out of this exam with a vast array of finance industry knowledge and steps closer to the man I want to become. I couldn't have done it without the support of my good friends Forrest Harvey and Assad Habib, who encouraged me to start the CFA journey, and my colleagues at The Schmidt Investment Group, who believed in me, pushed me to be my best, and provided me the tools to be successful. Special thanks to Mark Meldrum, Ph.D., for assisting me with level III of the program. I studied level I & II on my own but given my science background I wanted some assistance for level III to make sure my thoughts and Ideas around the material were in line and correct. From completing your study sessions I felt confident with the material to pass the exam, but more importantly I felt prepared to use what I learnt and apply it in my career. I wish I would have used your program for all 3 levels! For anyone considering the CFA® program, I recommend it in the highest accolade. The last three years were the busiest of my life but also the most fulfilling and rewarding. Here's to the next step: the application for the charter! 🎉 I am thrilled to announce that I have successfully Passed Level 1 of the CFA Institute on my first attempt! 📚 This journey, from gradually building my study pace to dedicating a whopping 18 hours a day, has been the craziest yet most fruitful experience of my life. Here are some key takeaways from this incredible journey: 💪 All you need is yourself: Choosing to self-study allowed me to set my own pace, revisit concepts, and most importantly, work on my self-discipline. It emphasized that sometimes, you need yourself more than anything else. ⏰ Subjective Study Hours: Contrary to the popular 300-hour approach, I delved into the curriculum at least thrice, making me cross the 300-hour mark easily. Practice hours were just as vital, if not more, than reading hours. ⌛ Time Management: Balancing full-time university and a job was no small feat. I squeezed in study hours wherever I could, often finding my most productive sessions between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. Late-night study sessions pushed me to manage time efficiently and find real balance. 📖 Comprehensive Learning: CFA Level 1 tested me on an in-depth understanding of 10 different topics in a single stretch on the same day. It's all about active recall and focused concentration on exam day. 🔍 Depth Over Breadth: The CFA Level 1 strategy, with its constant reinforcement of strong topics and periodic revisiting of weaker points, was new to me. It's clear that rote memorization wouldn't suffice with over 3000 pages of material. Deeper understanding makes recalling concepts under exam pressure easier. 😅 Emotional Resilience: Burnouts are real and can take a toll. Striking the right balance between dedication to your CFA goal and taking time to refresh your mental state is crucial for success without losing your sanity. 🤝 Counting on your Inner Circle Strength: Surrounding yourself with the right people is vital for staying on this critical path. I extend my heartfelt thanks to my parents, my brother, my professors, my dean, and my friends who supported me with guidance and love. Without them, this milestone would have remained a distant dream. 📚 Just Completed My CFA Level 3 Exam: Awaiting the Next Chapter! 🚀 I'm excited to share that I've recently taken the CFA Level 3 exam, marking a significant step in my professional journey! 🌟 🌟 What makes the CFA Level 3 exam so special? 🌟 1️⃣ Holistic Mastery: CFA Level 3 delves deep into portfolio management and wealth planning, equipping candidates with a comprehensive understanding of investment management. It's not just about crunching numbers; it's about making informed decisions to secure financial futures. 2️⃣ Real-World Application: The Level 3 curriculum focuses on practical application. It challenges candidates to create portfolio strategies, assess risk, and develop client-centric solutions. This is not just theoretical knowledge; it's about preparing for the complexities of the financial industry. 3️⃣ Ethical Leadership: Ethical considerations are paramount in Level 3. I was recently asked: “How has CFA Program helped you in your profession and in a real world practical knowledge perspective? “ I’ve fielded a version of this question quite a few times, having hired many young finance professionals over the past decade, and in my mentorship capacity with McGill University students. If you're considering the CFA, there are a few things you should know so you go into it eyes wide open. Pros: - Exposure to different areas of finance so you can figure out your interests. - Immediate credibility with your counterparts, which was helpful to me when dealing with folks with decades more experience early in my career. - It an unlock certain roles that require accreditation - Much less expensive than an MBA both in out-of-pocket costs and forgone income. Cons: - Minimum 300 hours of studying, which in practical terms means you sacrifice half a year of social life as you work all day and study at night and on weekends. - You won't develop a deep expertise in any particular area from the program alone. - The opportunity cost may be high if there are more productive ways you can use your time. All that said, for me it was a great decision, and I'm proud to be CFA charter holder. If anyone has any questions about this decision, please don't hesitate to ask!

🐳 Big picture 🖼️: This is how the CFA program is structured I am often approached by followers on LinkedIn who are not sure whether they should pursue the coveted charter from the CFA Institute, too. Many of them reach out to me after already having spent a fair amount of time researching the topic. Often I get the impression that it is quite easy to drown in the vast amount of information that is available online on the CFA program. So easy to not to see the wood 🪵 for the trees 🌲 🌳 🌴. In comes this somewhat simplified but very effective overview that shows you the emphasis at each of the three levels, including the new pathways at level III. Yes, this slide doesn’t contain a lot of the detail at each level. But it does a great job outlining how the program moves from teaching 1️⃣comprehension & application of investment tools at level I to 2️⃣analysis & evaluation of the different asset classes at level II to 3️⃣holistic evaluation of portfolio management and wealth planning at level III. Whilst keeping a core focus on ethics and professional standards during the entire program. I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve passed the CFA Level II exam on my first attempt! This journey has been intense, and I couldn’t have done it without the unwavering support of my family, friends, and colleagues. I only studied from Kaplan Schweser, which was perfect for me since I was already familiar with these topics from school. Schweser's notes were invaluable, and I complemented them with practice questions and mock exams from the CFA Institute’s Learning Ecosystem. However, for those struggling or with more time, I recommend the CFA Institute books—they’re more in-depth and exhaustive, offering a deeper understanding that can be crucial for the exam. I also loved the new Practical Skills Module. I took the Analyst Skills module, and it was particularly insightful. The material was so practical, providing years of industry knowledge in just a few hours. This module added a valuable dimension to my preparation and career readiness. The depth of the CFA curriculum expanded my knowledge in areas like alternative investments, derivatives, and portfolio management, and I’m excited to apply this in my investment career.
