Our Principal Lesley Aron Schmerzler AIA at the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2024 Tennessee Conference! The theme of this year’s conference was “Grounding.” Through this motif, the event aimed to explore both architecture’s physical relationship to material flows and resources within ecological systems, as well as architecture’s intangible relationship to history, memory, and lesser-acknowledged cultural contexts. Plans for the impending restoration of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) 66 Portland Place headquarters in London have become clearer with the release of an amended proposal outlining the scope of work for the new House of Architecture project. Benedetti Architects will head the project, which was awarded in 2022 following a brief competition. The anticipated £58.8 million project will provide complete accessibility throughout all 28 levels of the 90-year-old Art Deco skyscraper while replacing existing fossil fuel-dependent systems to reach a net zero goal. Since 1970, the original George Grey Wornum design has been protected under a historic Grade II classification. RIBA says: "[The] House of Architecture brings together three critical areas of our work that need investment, and will deliver on improvements that are fundamental to RIBA’s ongoing mission." https://lnkd.in/dN4hv8Ke
