A few weeks ago, one of our team members handed in their notice.
When I asked for a reason?
They said they’ve landed their dream role - something we knew was a possibility.
Instead of seeing it as a loss, we saw it as a moment to celebrate.
Here’s what we did:
-- Organized a small send-off to honor their contributions.
-- Wrote them a glowing reference (they deserved it).
-- Made it clear they’re always welcome back or can reach out for support.
When someone leaves, how you respond shows your company culture.
Is it tense and transactional? Or is it supportive and human?
This isn’t just about them - it’s about your current team watching closely and what they’ll remember about working with you.
For us, it’s simple: People are not just employees - they’re part of our story, even when their chapter with us ends.
How does your team handle goodbyes?
PS: We always make sure to let our team members know they are always welcome to visit us, seek help, or share anything they want to. We are glad we are still in touch with our ex-team members.
