To understand infrastructure in Africa, attend African weddings. Norms and values (institutions). In Africa, we spend to impress. Logic flees. There's no room for science. That's how we run weddings. And that's how we run infrastructure. That's the challenge we face in bringing science to infrastructure in Africa. Now ask, to what extent was management considered while designing this highway? Let the summit hold a minute of silence in respect of the many local people who have died on this highway. #infrastructure #africa #sustainability

Access to a port in the Gulf of Aden, like Berbera in Somaliland, provides Ethiopia with strategic maritime connectivity. It offers Ethiopia an alternative trade route, reducing dependence on a single corridor and enhancing economic resilience. The Gulf of Aden is a crucial maritime route, and having a port there allows Ethiopia to diversify its options, ensuring smoother trade and potentially lowering transportation costs. Multi-country rail and road projects like the $2.2bn Lobito corridor aim to slash cross-border costs and are linking up with visa-free access initiatives pioneered by Rwanda, Benin, Seychelles and Gambia. The AU's Albert Muchanga argues that connecting African economies and labor markets is key to catalysing growth, prosperity and continental integration. Read more @theafricareport
