As we witness the final death throes of this horrific human tragedy, with all of its cost in children, the innocent and our humanity, we must find a path forward. We are now all obligated to those who have paid the ultimate price and those that must now live in the aftermath of our collective failure. Many will fail to see the lessons that this affront to our humanity is showing us all. However enough do, and we are many from all parts of the world. We understand our values, we see your horror, we see your crimes, but most of all we see you. To understand the true horror of this madness against humanity, you must first believe that all are equally valuable and all are valid. Therefore this is our worst on full display. An unjust environment exploding into horror of the worse kind, unstoppable despite our voices. However all things end, and how this ends is vital for our future. Expanding horror is not the aim, stopping it once and for all is the aim, nothing less will do for those who have paid and will pay for this madness. Interesting parallels between the #JoelOlsteen shooting Sunday and the #ShinzoAbe assassination, both targeting centers of #ProsperityTheology; a perhaps misrepresentation of historical Calvinism that faithfully giving money begets receiving wealth, if only you give enough, and to the right person, often associated in #CounterExtremism circles with #MilitantProtestantism. Basically turning religion into a #PyramidScam or casino that has bankrupted many vulnerable people around the world, including the Abe shooter's own family. Very arguably we are on the downstroke of 20-teens #internet- and #media-driven mass #extremism, not dis-similarly to the dramatic drop in popular protest of a similar period, declining between #Woodstock (Aug 69), that went relatively well as a high-watermark of a popular morality movement, the #AltamontSpeedwayConcert (Dec 69), trying to duplicate Woodstock just a few months later, that went downhill, riddled with crime, multiple murders, car thefts, etc, the #GratefulDead even refusing to take the stage (Keep on truckin', guys), to #KentState (May 70), and its arguably fringe-leftist reprisal targeting the ROTC office in the #SterlingHallBombing (Aug 70); countervailing extremisms within months of each other. This rapid decline taking the wind out of the sails of popular support for civil unrest entering the 70s. #HunterSThompson wrote about some of this in his book, #FearAndLoathing, not seen in Gilliam's screen adaptation; just as so-called protest music's often-criticism of protestors went unnoticed (Beatles, Buffalo Springfield, etc). It's interesting to consider if the coming few years of what will be general moderation in an electorate, twisted by the loudest voices into extremist messages by those whom stand to profit the most, will see a decline in such church attendance, at least foreseeably; the masses whom were enticed into these bankruptcy circles rising up against the leaders whom led them astray. And would that translate to other institutions around the world, the public tiring of the hysterics. I personally don't have an interest for religion in my life, but the Olsteen's of the world would be wise to consider Matthew 21:12: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you’re turning it into a gathering place for thieves!” Or even 6:5-6: “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others... when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen."
