Patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) and subclinical corneal edema may have more visual impairment than patients with FECD and no subclinical corneal edema due to an increase in high-order aberrations (HOAs), according to a retrospective case series published in Cornea : The Journal of Cornea and External Diseases. Monitoring visual changes and disease progression in these patients can guide clinical decision making, the report suggests. Our latest publication uses data from 419 patients who completed the diagnostic trajectory of the Sjögren Expertise Center in the UMCG. Here, we found that the salivary gland ultrasonography (SGUS) OMERACT score shows a good accuracy to predict clinical diagnosis of Sjögren's disease. By adding the SGUS OMERACT score to the ACR-EULAR classification criteria, accuracy to predict clinical diagnosis remained excellent. Therefore, the SGUS OMERACT score is a useful additional diagnostic tool, providing a better balance of objective glandular measures included in the ACR-EULAR classification criteria for Sjögren's disease. Ophthopedia Update:Cost-utility analysis of prophylactic laser peripheral iridotomy for primary angle closure suspects: Primary angle closure (PAC) disease (PACD) occurs when trabecular meshwork and aqueous outflow obstruction predisposes to elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), formation of peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS), and, potentially, glaucomatous optic neuropathy. The goal of PACD management is to prevent or reverse angle closure and control IOP to prevent acute angle closure (AAC) crisis and PAC glaucoma (PACG). Prophylactic laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) is traditionally considered on PAC suspects (PACS) to prevent pupillary block and open the anatomic angle. #Ophthalmology #Ophthotwitter #Scicomm
