It took Laval-based Omnirobotic three months to accept it was not going to be able to raise new funding to fuel its big software vision and another half a year for it to secure the buy-in required to restructure and reinvent itself. So far, that plan is working: in its first six months as an autonomous machine builder, Omnirobotic beat its annual sales estimates and became profitable. I spoke with Omnirobotic co-founder and CEO Francois Simard about the journey, how the firm turned a crisis into an opportunity, and what he has learned along the way. #QCtech #CDNtech

🚨 Funding round announcement 🚨 Delighted to announce our investment into DeepForm as part of a £2m funding round, alongside Cambridge Enterprise.   Spun-out of the University of Cambridge, DeepForm’s novel solution can reduce material waste in car manufacturing by over 75%, as well as helping manufacturers reduce CO2 emissions. DeepForm’s solution uses novel 3-D gripping technology and has already been used in carbon reduction studies with six OEMs, reducing trimming scrap by almost 40% in some cases!   Moray Wright, Chief Executive at Parkwalk Advisors, said: “Automobile manufacturers around the world have committed to reach net zero both from tailpipe emissions and manufacturing. DeepForm’s technology has the potential to reduce wastage and emissions from vehicle production, and has wide ranging commercial applications. A huge congratulations to the winner of our #2024VentureWest #DemoDay competition Parspec, an infrastructure-focused company that wowed our panel of judges (all active investors in the AEC space) with its software platform for construction materials sales agents and distributors that leverages AI to support product selection, quoting and submittal preparation. We were truly blown away. Our judges were particularly impressed by Parspec's "scalable business model for construction material procurement." Thanks to its AI, in a single day the software is able to "index over 3 million product documents from 1,800 manufacturers, extract over a billion performance and technical parameters, and enable a streamlined product search and comparison system." While Parspec earned top marks, the margin of victory was admittedly thin. That is in no way a jab at our winner, but rather a compliment to all of our competitors, each of whom came well prepared. Our top finalists, directly behind Parspec, included Swyft Cities at second, Voltpost at third, Ediphi at fourth, and ClimeCast at fifth. Each is a company worth your attention.
