Discover how VERTEX solves intricate water intrusion challenges with precision and expertise. Recently, a homeowner’s insurance carrier engaged us to investigate ongoing water leaks through glass doors following a severe weather event. Through thorough site inspections and detailed analysis of meteorological data, we pinpointed the underlying issue: inadequate flashing and drainage systems, rather than the storm itself, were causing the leaks. Our tailored solution included recommending enhancements to sealing and flashing designs, effectively preventing future water ingress and ensuring lasting protection for the property. Explore the full case study at https://lnkd.in/g9jZrB3D and discover how VERTEX's Forensic services adeptly handle complex engineering challenges. #WaterIntrusion #ForensicEngineering #CaseStudy #ProjectProfile #VertexEng

Leak detection is a critical aspect of property maintenance often overlooked until it's too late. FP Property Restoration utilizes infrared thermal imaging (IR) technology to conduct inspections of homes, businesses, condos, and other properties to take the guesswork out of inspections. This technology allows our team to uncover water damage sources, as well as conduct routine scheduled maintenance inspections to ensure there are no unknown issues. We understand the hidden dangers that leaks can pose. Even a seemingly minor leak can escalate into a major problem, leading to expensive damage and significant headaches. If you’ve experienced water damage from a mysterious source, a thermal inspection from FP Restoration can locate, identify, and fix the problem. Interested to learn more about this effort and how will it be used for management decisions in the Chesapeake Bay.
We’ve harnessed our experience in hydrodynamic and sediment transportation modeling to develop a 3D model of Chesapeake Bay. This modeling tool can give accurate predictions of water levels, salinity, currents, waves, and sediment transport across the entire bay and its tributaries. What makes our model unique? - High Resolution and Flexibility: Our unstructured model grid allows for high resolution in specific project areas while maintaining coarser resolution elsewhere. The benefits of this include faster computation times, high resolution to meet project needs, and no bay-wide model recalibration for individual projects. - Bay-Wide Integration: It integrates bay-wide processes with project-specific data to provide detailed local predictions and evaluate overall project impacts across the entire Chesapeake Bay system. From sedimentation and shoaling analysis to coastal resiliency planning and storm surge modeling, our 3D Chesapeake Bay model is versatile and robust. #Hydrodynamics #SedimentTransport #ChesapeakeBay #EnvironmentalModeling #CoastalResilience #StormSurge #EngineeringExcellence

Is your Diver an ideal home for spiders? Quality assurance and control are needed to provide reliable and insightful data. However, within that data, you can sometimes find interesting and unexpected things! In one of our projects monitoring the floodplains of the Rhine and Meuse rivers in the Netherlands for Rijkswaterstaat, we faced an unusual challenge. During the validation of data, we noticed some strange anomalies in some of the Diver’s pressure data. The air pressure deviated from the air pressure recorded by an external source during the day. However, during the night no differences in air pressure were recorded. Upon further investigation, we discovered that sac spiders had made their nests inside the pressure chambers of the Divers. These nocturnal spiders, hiding in their webs during the day, were affecting the pressure membrane and skewing our data. For the next monitoring campaign, we installed new Divers, now with a medical finger bob around it, to prevent spiders from entering the pressure chamber. We'll see next year if this solution works!
