Patients want a clear diagnosis, to feel better, an empowering and realistic plan of care, and to be heard, seen, and cared for. Often in the ED the provider only has time to ensure an issue is not emergent and stable and then to make referrals. The setting does not lend itself to comprehensive care, solving all of the complexities, or even allowing for much time with the patient. In many cases adding a PT to your team in the ED can help bridge this gap -- particularly in the instance of musculoskeletal complaints. (Along with many more.)
