A provision of SECURE 2.0 now allows employers to terminate a SIMPLE IRA at any point during the calendar year by replacing it with a safe harbor 401(k) plan. Prior to January 1, 2024, employers were required to maintain the SIMPLE IRA for the entire calendar year. Terminating the existing SIMPLE IRA will take some coordination between retirement plan professionals.
