This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and this year is the theme of “𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡”. Movement is important for both our bodies and minds. Although we know movement is good for us, there are often limitations such as time, money or accessibility which can stop us. Moving our bodies doesn’t have to mean going to the gym or running a marathon. It can mean a stroll with a friend, pushing your child on a park swing or chair exercises in front of the TV. We know there are many different reasons for this, so this Mental Health Awareness Week is about helping people to find moments for movement in their daily routines. This could be going for a walk in your neighbourhood, putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room, or chair exercises when you’re watching television – it all counts!
