Don’t forget to ask how they’re doing.
Military personnel, on paper, can often be seen as a number no different than the weapon they carry or the vehicles they use.
Even with the advancements in education & programs for performance, diet, etc. it is easy to slip into the trap that is chasing numbers rather than helping the person that number represents.
True human performance is much more complex than what is measurable with statistical significance.

If you're interested in catching up on what you missed, you can review the slide deck at the link below. I don't think this is something new it's been known for sometime.
The report highlights that the UK Armed Forces are currently equipped with sufficient readiness for operations, enabling them to fulfill standing and contingent commitments. Positive.
However, the breadth of these commitments is straining budgets, constraining training opportunities, and impacting personnel retention. known known
Additionally, the report acknowledges the existence of potential challenges or threats on the horizon, metaphorically described as "storm clouds," indicating the need for preparedness and proactive measures. known unknown.
main recommendations:
1. Addressing the strain on budgets caused by extensive commitments to alleviate constraints on training and personnel retention. known known.
2. Prioritising the development of warfighting readiness to ensure preparedness for potential future challenges or threats. known known.
3. Implementing proactive measures to address potential challenges or threats indicated by the metaphorical "storm clouds" on the horizon. known unknown.
definition of readiness:
The report defines readiness as the capability of the UK Armed Forces to carry out standing operations and contingent commitments effectively. This includes being adequately prepared, equipped, and trained to fulfill operational tasks as required.
see the first point. UK Armed forces are currently equipped for sufficient readiness for operations.

The report on Armed Forces Readiness has been published and I can’t say it makes for enjoyable reading. I suspect for a large number of my military colleagues this will bring many long-standing frustrations (and realities) into public consciousness and awareness more than before 😕
There's a term used that makes me laugh from the depths of my belly. And those who are or have served in the Military have the same reaction paired with an eye roll that could give you a concussion.
"Military Grade". Sounds pretty badass no? hard core, indestructible, strong, sturdy.
*queue cackling hyenas in the background*
Military Grade is the lowest bidder that can push out products fast enough to keep up with demand. It's not the best, most durable, strongest, or most efficient. It's the cheapest that the military can buy in bulk.
Unless it's a toilet seat, in which case the Military will spend $3K on a toilet for a CO that's got a bidet and heated seat. Because officers' butts are sensitive.
And if you think I'm being over the top, ask any purchasing agent from the Military how ridiculous the spending is in one arena, and how cheap they are in the other arena.
Sadly, I've encounter too many #transitioningservicemembers who feel this same way.
For employers who want to hire #veterans, the best time to do so, is while we transition. And for companies who are truly committed there are two things they keep at the forefront of their minds:
1) They are open to having a conversation. They ask questions about acronyms they don't understand. They ask what #servicemembers did while they served, and what their career goals are going forward.
2) They educate themselves about the #veteran and #milspouse population.
If you are in the process creating a #veteranhiring strategy or want to brand yourself with our population, RecruitMilitary can absolutely assist your team.
If you're curious about what that may look like for your team, just message me. I'm happy to assist.
