Sr. Program Manager, Technical Learning | Enabling Digital Transformation through Innovative Learning Solutions and Change Management | Cloud & Generative AI Learning Programs
I have a lot of new connections that are recent graduates (& soon to be recent graduates) from the Ga Tech career fair, Yahoo’s insider track, and the HBCU Greatness event - so hello and welcome! 💜 This advice is directly for those folks. Your first year in the workforce is full of learning curves, but it’s also the best time to build a habit of continuous development. Here are a few ways to make learning and development a key part of your growth: 1. Ask for Feedback Regularly – Don’t be afraid to ask your manager for feedback. It shows you’re invested in your growth and gives you clear areas to improve. 2. Leverage Free Learning Resources – Many companies offer access to platforms like LinkedIn Learning, Pluralsight, Udemy, or O’Reilly. Take advantage of them to boost your skills. 3. Set Clear Goals – Whether it’s technical skills or soft skills, set a goal each quarter to work on something specific and track your progress. 4. Build a Learning Network – Surround yourself with peers and mentors who prioritize development. They’ll encourage you to stay sharp and introduce you to new perspectives. Your early career is the foundation for a lifetime of growth—start strong by making learning part of your everyday routine! #CareerAdvice #ContinuousLearning #NewGradTips #ProfessionalDevelopment #EarlyCareer #AlwaysBeLearning

Military Hiring Programs | Strategic Recruiting | Engagement Enthusiast | Storyteller | Military ERG Co-Lead | MSLDP Alumni
🌞 Thought of the day 🌞 Not all transitioning service members know about the numerous programs and opportunities available to them. Recently during one of our virtual Military Hiring Info Sessions, someone raised their hand and asked me "What exactly is SkillBridge?". It reminded me that even though folks might attend transitioning sessions/courses, it doesn't necessarily mean they understand how to begin the SkillBridge process, the parameters, the timelines, best practices, etc. So, I'd like to share an article I wrote with Clearedjobs last year in hopes that it can offer insight on how to get started. This article goes over some great information on how to have a successful SkillBridge internship! Knowledge is power and preparation is key. 💪 ✨ I hope this is helpful for folks who are just starting to dip their toes into the uncharted waters of military transition. ✨ #dodskillbridge #skillbridge

Helping early-career professionals navigate professional growth | Media Analyst at BMG360 | Former Student-Athlete
It’s not a great idea to “trust the process” if you don’t have a process in place. A mistake I made when I was looking for my first internship back in 2018. Here are three strategies I would adopt if I were to start today: 1. Take breaks after every 10 high-quality applications: I realize the importance of pacing myself during the application process. By incorporating regular breaks, I would have maintained focus and prevented burnout, ultimately leading to more effective applications. 2. Personalize messages to recruiters: Rather than sending generic applications, I would prioritize crafting tailored messages to recruiters. This personalized approach would have helped me stand out from the competition and demonstrate genuine interest in the opportunities available. 3. Attend every personal development/career fair of my university: Despite conflicting schedules, I would make attending every university career fair a non-negotiable priority, even if it meant missing soccer practice. I would communicate with my coach and seek their understanding, emphasizing the significance of these events in shaping my professional journey. What are some proven strategies that have worked for you? Drop them in the comment section below🔽

Last week I had the chance to interact with many young people at the higher education career fair at KICC. One of the questions that came up often was how to start building one’s career, and what skills one needs. This made me think about some of the key skills I adopted when I started as an intern and here are my top three; 1️⃣ Adaptability: You need to be ready to embrace change with open arms, whether it's a new project, a different team dynamic, or a shift in company strategy. The reality is what you envision that ‘work/career life’ looks like, and what you experience will be quite different. The ability to adapt will not only help you thrive in your current role but also demonstrate your readiness to take on new challenges and grow within the organization. 2️⃣ Communication: It’s so important to articulate your ideas. You can be the smartest or most educated person but if you cannot communicate well, then you won’t get noticed, heard, promoted, or get any growth opportunities. Remember, it's not just about what you say, but how you say it and how well you listen. 3️⃣ Continuous Learning ✍ : The journey of learning doesn't end with graduation. It's only just begun! Stay curious, seek out opportunities to learn and develop new skills, and invest in your personal and professional growth. There’s so much information today that you can access at the click of a button. You only need to commit the time ⏲ . For all those who have been in the career space for a while, I would like to hear some of the skills you have adopted so far. Share your thoughts and experiences below. #careers #careerdevelopment #careergrowth #careertips

HR Coordinator @ MetaPhy Health \\ I Empower Emerging Talent to Obtain their Dream Job through Career Development \\ MT|SHRM College Relations Team \\ UTK & MTSU Alumni
Less than 10% of the interview will be discussing your degree. Start building your other 90% by: Joining Student Organizations -> Aim for quality over Quantity -> Aspire for leadership roles Attending Professional Conferences -> So many associations offer HUGE discounts to students -> Network with professionals in your field -> Play the “student card” (I met so many people this way)! Landing Internships -> Plan to attend job fairs -> Engage with your university’s career center Volunteering -> Many non-profits love student volunteers -> These can build strong narratives for future interviews Exploring relevant certifications/student programs you can in -> Lots of industry associations offer unique programs for students -> Jumpstart your skill set by obtaining a certification early (if you qualify) Stop relying on your college degree to get you a job. Your college degree is simply a small chapter in your career story. P.S.: What other activities should students engage in? Let me know in the comments! Repost to help students in your network

As many of you are about to start your business school experience, here is a reminder on how to make the most out of your experience: 🎓🚀 🔸 Network, Network, Network: It's said thrice for emphasis. You will hear this word all through your b-school journey. But it's absolutely worth it! Dive deep into the diversity of your cohort. Join clubs, connect with MBAs and executive MBAs, and those with more experience. Every interaction can be a learning opportunity. 🔸 Engage in Events: Whether it's a social mixer or a professional seminar, immerse yourself. Active participation not only broadens your horizon but also sharpens your soft skills. 🔸 Prioritize Academics: Business schools may feel like a fun-filled student life redux, but it's crucial not to sideline the academic component. Especially if you hail from a different background, attending classes can be transformative. The hands-on, practical approach can redefine your career trajectory. 🔸 Compete Actively: Business school competitions aren't just about accolades. They simulate real-world scenarios and challenge you to devise actionable solutions. 🔸 Career Fairs are Goldmines: If you're uncertain about the industry that resonates with you, career fairs are the compass. Interact, ask, and delve deep to identify your calling. In essence, every class, conversation, and competition holds the potential to shape your professional future. So, embrace every facet of it and weave a journey that's uniquely yours. #BusinessSchool #studyabroad #MiM #MAM #LBS
