It’s a symbolic way of describing how one positive action can lead to another, creating a cascade of beneficial effects. This concept often illustrates how small, constructive changes can have far-reaching and compounding impacts. Every participant at Breakthrough is connected to people beyond themselves. We show them that they don’t have to be defined by their past, and that they have the power and ability to change not only their world but others around them as well. This not only breaks the cycle of intergenerational poverty and incarceration but can also shift the culture inside prison facilities to be one of acceptance and change. Understanding who we are is at the core of growing up for all of us, it’s complicated, confusing and at times confronting, and the process is lifelong. For young people living with brain injury, this journey is a thousand times more complex, and is further challenged by the lack of understanding they face. This month's understanding brain injury series will focus on how some of the young adults in our community learned to navigate this process, and find their way to understanding themselves, and more importantly, valuing themselves and their lived experience. For our community at Heads Together, these young people are a beacon of hope for families, and much needed trailblazers for the hundreds of thousands of young Australians living with brain injury. HowGiving is a 501(c)(3) founded with the purpose of priming the pump of biblical generosity within the Western Christian community. The WHY behind this non-profit is The Giving Movement … the idea that we were designed to be as generous as our Heavenly Father is generous. How generous was he? Well, He gave his only Son to His enemies, to save a bunch of rebels who had turned against Him. So, what are we to do with our time, talent and treasure, especially as business professionals with the propensity to make lots and lots of money? Are we to funnel that surplus into our own comfort and control, fighting like a honey badger to maintain the cushion we hold? Or are we to live modestly... only our daily bread... reserving the reminder for the least of these, to act as God's hands and feet in this broken and hurting world.
