In a world where business often takes center stage, it's easy to forget the little things that make a big difference. One such thing? Teaching our children the value of care. As business leaders, we're no strangers to the concepts of investment, growth, and ROI. But when it comes to our families, these concepts take on a whole new meaning. Investing in our children's emotional intelligence by teaching them to care for others is perhaps the most invaluable investment we can make. It's not just about ensuring they become successful professionals, but compassionate human beings. Here's a personal story that might resonate with many of you: My youngest daughter has Crohn's disease and has had it since age 10 - She is now an amazing adult - who took ownership of her health and now works for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation - raising money and awareness to find a cure for this "Crappy" disease. I am so proud of her for stepping into helping others. Her courage and dedication to others is what I admire so much. When she was young, I made my best effort to teach her life's critical lessons, and now she is teaching me as well. To care, to value the simple moments, and to remember that behind every successful professional is a human heart yearning for connection and understanding. Also, many people are suffering behind their smiles and the smallest deed can make the biggest difference. My daughter's commitment to finding a cure for Crohn's disease has led me to prioritize 'care' in my daily life. Whether it's spending an extra five minutes on the phone with my daughter or a friend about our day, volunteering together at the local shelter, or simply listening to each other without distractions, these moments of care build a foundation of empathy and understanding that can transform societies. To my LinkedIn connections and business leaders, let's not forget the power of care. It shapes our children's futures, strengthens our families, and, ultimately, reflects in the way we lead and engage with the world around us. Because at the end of the day, the most significant legacy we can leave is not just a successful business, but a generation that cares deeply about the world and the people in it. If you are interested in supporting the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation - This year is going to be bigger and better than ever-we are going to raise HALF A MILLION dollars for IBD cures! My Brain Injury Anniversary - For so many people with acquired brain injuries, the idea of a birthday or anniversary can have a very different meaning because one of the things that's unique about this complex condition is that there is life before and after. For some this is a specific day, for others it might be a specific milestone, and depending on the age of the young person it might be more of an anniversary for the family than the young person. So this month, we are asking our community to share their perspective on brain injury anniversaries and how they mark these milestones, because just like brain injury, there is no one way of doing things. #ABI #TBI #braininjuryawareness #headstogetherforabi #headstogetherforbraininjury #nonprofit #braininjury #acquiredbraininjury #headinjury #traumaticbraininjury #braininjurysupport #mentalwellbeing #braininjuryadvocacy #inclusivity #LivedExperience #Volunteering #ABIAwareness #ABISurvivor #TBISurvivor #braininjurysurvivor #YouCantBeWhatYouCantSee #UnderstandMeUnderstandMyBrainInjury #YouCantUnderstandWhatYouDontKnow #understandingbraininjury #20yearsHeadsTogether

Introducing Helpful Heads – a free peer support service for people with TBI, their whānau and their employers. A common theme amongst those with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their support people is the feeling of being misunderstood, isolated or frustrated with the slow progress in their recovery. The complex journey of rehabilitation and recovery is hard to navigate for families and those with the injury, having support from someone who has been through it can be invaluable. Traumatic Brain Injury is often an invisible injury and therefore is even harder to understand for those around us. We identified the value in setting up a peer support service and in 2023 Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust was successful in securing a 12-month Lotteries Grant fund to establish a Traumatic Brain Injury Peer & Whānau Support Service. Helpful Heads has a growing database of keen volunteers of different ages, from all different walks of life and locations in the Canterbury region who can offer support to those who would like to talk to someone who can truly understand what they are struggling with. The support may be a simple phone call or text, it could be a coffee and a walk. It may be once a week or just as required. The service aims to find a good fit for everyone, so that practical experiences can be shared and emotional support can be provided. To learn more, visit the new Helpful Heads website at the link below! https://helpfulheads.co.nz

Feeling alone, afraid, overwhelmed and isolated is an experience that everyone impacted by acquired brain injury can relate to. At Heads Together, we believe that peer connections are a powerful way to deal with these feelings and experiences. Being with people who "get it" and being with people whose experience is similar but also unique to them can not only provide support but also have the power to shape our perspective. To celebrate Brain Injury Awareness Week, we will share stories from our community of the peer connections they have made and how these connections have impacted their life. We want to represent all the different types of peer connections in our community, between young people living with brain injuries, between young people and siblings, young people and parents and between participants and volunteers. All of these connections contribute to our perspective of our own lives and of the experiences of others, creating deeper understanding, respect and empathy. #ABI #TBI #braininjuryawareness #headstogetherforabi #headstogetherforbraininjury #nonprofit #braininjury #acquiredbraininjury #headinjury #traumaticbraininjury #braininjurysupport #mentalwellbeing #braininjuryadvocacy #inclusivity #LivedExperience #Volunteering #ABIAwareness #ABISurvivor #TBISurvivor #braininjurysurvivor #YouCantBeWhatYouCantSee #UnderstandMeUnderstandMyBrainInjury #YouCantUnderstandWhatYouDontKnow #understandingbraininjury #20yearsHeadsTogether

Meet Joanna, Joanna is a mother of two and a wife to husband Michael. They migrated from the UK to Australia in 2007 as it was Joanna’s dream to move to Australia. They had been living in Australia and working as teachers and had settled into their happy lives. The day she fell and got a spinal cord injury changed her whole life and the whole family dynamics. Joanna's identity as a mother and wife shifted as she grappled with her injury. She pushed ahead with family activities like holidays and weekend outings, where she had to come to terms with the fact she had to parent from afar. She could no longer be the mum who stood at the waters edge while her kids played in the ocean. After ten years, Joanna applied to be part of the Spinal Cord Injury Fund clinical trial where she attended rehabilitation at Making Strides for 16 weeks. At the completion of the trial she experienced significant physical and emotional changes. She gained strength in her body and a new confidence. She is now doing things she never thought possible. But what would a cure mean for Joanna? A cure would mean that Joanna could hold her children again. She could wipe a tear from her face or feel her husbands affectionate touch. A cure would mean she could simply brush her own teeth. We need a cure so that those suffering with paralysis can feel and hold their families again, so they connect with their loved ones. We need a cure for the 500 moments people like Joanna long to feel again. We’re $500,000 away from a world-first human clinical trial. Together, we’ve raised $8 million so far but we aren’t at our goal yet. We can make the impossible, possible when we work together. 👉🏼 Learn more and make a tax deductible contribution to our human clinical trial here: https://lnkd.in/gNHDscv5

Dr Matthew Johnson and Andrew Huberman share a powerful conversation about just how much positive research that has come out on various psychedelic medicines such as MDMA and Psilocybin 🍄 For years, Big Pharma has been giving it their all to develop medicines to treat mental health conditions, only to be overshadowed by these sacred medicines that have been around and being used for centuries. The substances are truly a blessing to our world ❤️ Illuminating Heroes is spearheading the movement of allowing access to psychedelic medicine for therapeutic and healing purposes, especially for our Nation's Heroes, First Responders, and their families 🍄 Time and time again, we have seen the VA and Healthcare System fail those in need who are struggling with mental health conditions. It is time to open our country's mind and allow them to see that there is a BETTER SOLUTION out there for conditions such as PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety. To learn more about our cause and what you can do to help us help others, DM us or click the link in our bio 📲 - Illuminating Heroes: a Non Profit Organization dedicated to getting our Nation’s heroes and their families the help they deserve right here IN America. What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)? #HBOT involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, allowing oxygen to dissolve and saturate the blood plasma. This enhances the body's natural healing processes and has shown remarkable success in treating traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and PTSD. Here’s how HBOT helps: - Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): Increases oxygen flow to damaged tissues, reducing swelling and promoting brain repair. - PTSD: Alleviates symptoms like anxiety, depression, and cognitive dysfunction by improving brain function and reducing inflammation. Our veterans are especially prone to these injuries due to the intense physical and emotional demands of military service. At #HBOT4Heroes, we are on a mission to heal them and stop veteran suicide by providing access to life-changing HBOT treatments. For more details, visit: https://lnkd.in/eFq7UtCx Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our veterans through the healing power of HBOT. #health #trendingreels #Donate #journey #support #health #usa #like #share #nonprofit #Hero #ptsd #traumaticbraininjury #veterans #recovery #breathe #help #hope #thankyou

❗ While Memorial Day is a time to honor military personnel who were killed while serving our country, I think it's also a great time to remember the hundreds of thousands of Veterans whose lives have been lost to suicide after they served--well over 6,000 a year for the past 20 years, an estimated 22 precious lives lost every single day. This is beyond unacceptable and we need to do better as a country to support Veterans struggling with PTSD, addiction, and other mental and physical health issues because standard treatments are clearly not working for all. This is personal for me, as the spouse of a Veteran with debilitating PTSD that me (and our 4 kids) have watched deteriorate before our eyes despite being under VA care and on all the standard pharmaceuticals and traditional therapy/treatments. 🍄 Psychedelic therapy is an incredibly safe and effective way to help heal PTSD, addiction, treatment resistant depression, anxiety and so many other ailments that our soldiers (and everyday citizens) struggle with. I hope anyone reading this who isn't familiar with that fact will take the time to educate yourself on the abundance of research that proves this, as well as the countless stories from actual humans who have found relief in plant medicine when all else has failed. If you are a Massachusetts resident who cares about helping to reduce suicide rates for Veterans (and everyone!), and improving the lives of those suffering with mental and physical health issues that traditional medicine has not been able to alleviate, please reach out. Decriminalization/legalization of psilocybin mushrooms and other naturally occurring psychedelics is on the ballot this November and families like mine desperately need it to pass. If you live outside of MA, but want to find a way to help us in this fight, I'd love to hear from you too. 💓 Finally, a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful non-profit Veteran organizations and the individuals that support them in providing this life saving care--Heroic Hearts Project/the Hope Project in particular has been such a huge source of ongoing support to my family and is very deserving of financial donations if you have the means to give. I'd love to hear of and connect with similar non-profits and individuals in this space, especially from those that might want to want to help our legalization efforts and supporting veterans in Massachusetts. Happy Memorial Day to all. #MemorialDay #VeteranSupport
