Inclusive volunteering brings individuals with and without disabilities together to make a difference in their communities by recognizing each person's individual gifts and talents. VIA's Club & Hub programs volunteer regularly with a variety of nonprofits throughout Virginia. Our Roanoke participants recently served lunch at Straight Street Roanoke Valley, a local community partner. Many people perceive people with disabilities as the ones in need of service. However, people with disabilities are a key part of civic engagement across the country. Thank you to Straight Street Roanoke Valley for being a part of our mission at VIA!

Embracing diversity is something that companies must do in 2024. Celigo has facilitated antisemitism prevention training, employee resource groups, international cultural events, STEM access donations, local community outreach, youth education funding, safe spaces for women and LGBTQIA+, winter coat drives, country-wide volunteering opportunities, minority speaking + education sessions, and men's health awareness programs. Everyone has a right to feel respected, protected, and valued in their community, and companies that do not embrace this will fall behind. Now let's zoom out to the bigger picture. There is a lot of anger out there, a lot of people are mad, and a lot of people seem to have genuine hate for those who are different. People who hate are lazy. Too lazy to connect with someone different. Too lazy to try and learn about someone’s story. Too lazy to try to change their minds and hearts. Too lazy to understand something other than what they have been taught. In a world full of hate, it is a lot easier to be accepting and celebrate differences. If everyone was the same, we’d all be pretty boring.

As an international nonprofit organization that has significantly improved the quality of life for those affected by war, crisis, and conflict, Humanity & Inclusion U.S. leaves a lasting impact on its community. However, they largely remained a mystery in the U.S., with only 6% of Americans recognizing their brand. We set out to expand HI's brand awareness and establish a foundation for future fundraising efforts. Here’s how we did it. https://hubs.la/Q02rl9tr0

🌟 Join me in fostering inclusivity! 🌟 At Society for the Blind, they are dedicated to creating an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. With guidance from the Michigan State University Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, the Society for the Blind team has compiled some simple tips to help sighted individuals interact comfortably with those who are blind. 1. Treat me as you would anyone else. I'm just an ordinary person who happens to be blind. 2. Speak to me directly, not through someone else. And please, no need to raise your voice. 3. Let me decide if I need assistance with mobility. Don't grab my arm; let me take yours if needed. 4. Introduce yourself when entering a room and include me in conversations. I want to know who's around. 5. Be mindful of hazards like partially opened doors, and give me a heads up. 6. If you need to step away from our conversation, excuse yourself verbally. I appreciate the courtesy. 7. I'm capable of managing on my own, but I'll ask for help if needed. 8. Feel free to use words like "see" around me. I use them too. 9. Remember, blindness is just one aspect of who I am. I have many other interests. 10. When we interact, maintain normal conversation to avoid collisions in common areas. 11. If you're speaking to me, look my way. I'm aware of your eye contact. 12. See me as a person first, not just a blind individual. Let's promote understanding and inclusivity together. Remember, in all fifty states, the law mandates drivers to yield to white canes and guide dogs. Let's continue building a world where everyone can navigate with confidence and respect. #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityAwareness #togetherwegotthis For more information check out the Society for the Blind Website: https://lnkd.in/g9uYbDsk

I want to kick off April and take a moment to recognize Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month. More than 5.6 million Americans are living with limb loss and limb difference. 🦾🦿 Ways anyone can recognize LLAM: 1. Advocate for legislative inclusive change 2. Talk to community leaders about inclusive playgrounds 3. Promote ADA standards in the community 4. Support disability-owned businesses 5. Donate to organizations that advocate for those with disabilities 6. Hire people with disabilities 7. Create inclusive spaces for everyone For the limb loss community: 1. Participate in a support group (The one I co-host is the last Tuesday of each month) 2. Participate in “show your mettle day” 3. Challenge assumptions
