A PORTRAIT OF A TEACHER Contrasting Cultural Perspectives on the Learning Profession #1 in a series of...probably 1 After a lifetime in the learning profession I'm still coming to understand the power of clear, conceptual transfer goals like those in the CGC's Portrait of a Learner. We are now harnessing the power of a clear 'end in mind' to directly shape curriculum, culture and community. An exciting example of this is our work with schools on A Portrait of a Teacher. 10 questions parents should ask at their Parent Teacher Conference this Fall: Question 1: Is my child a visual, auditory or kinesthetic learner? It is crucial for parents to understand whether their child is a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner because it empowers them to support their child's educational journey more effectively. Knowing their child's learning style allows parents to tailor home study environments, provide appropriate learning resources, and communicate more effectively with teachers about their child's needs. The Academy of Academic Excellence's teachers are skilled at recognizing this empowerment and can provide appropriate learning resources, further enhancing the child's learning experience. This understanding can improve academic performance and foster a more positive attitude towards education, ultimately contributing to their overall development and success. Dean Rita T. Busch

I help fill the gap in quality structured literacy professional development and instructional coaching for K-3rd Primary Educators
Hey Elementary Principals! We're stepping into testing season. I know the pressure is on you! Remember, the foundation for testing success is laid much earlier than the test year itself. I have over four years of experience in the 4th-grade, I can tell you that test prep bootcamps dressed in camouflage, though fun, aren't the miracle solution. Our chants and go-go pep rallies cannot mask the critical issue at hand: "There is no comprehension strategy powerful enough to compensate for the fact that you cannot read the words." Dr. Anita Archer's words ring true in my teaching journey, highlighting the importance of early literacy. If you're targeting high student performance, initiate test prep in the primary grades, ensuring at least 80% of students conclude the year reading fluently at or above level. Fluent reading is the key—allowing students to delve into comprehension with ease. In the schools I collaborate with we take a proactive approach to enhance the fluency of their primary students. We achieve this through high-quality structured literacy professional development, which equips proactive principles and primary teachers with evidence-based strategies. Are you ready to shift from reactive to proactive? If yes, schedule a free consultation call today! How do you plan to lay the groundwork for test prep in your school? Share your strategies or thoughts in the comments. #mequelboldenconsulting #structuredliteracy #scienceofreading #elementaryprincipals

No time to talk! We spend so much time and effort in the Early Years phase trying to get children to speak and find their voice. We teach them how to pronounce new words, speak in full sentences and form their own opinions. The assessment system even rates just how well our little ones are using their voice. Then... they enter the formal education system, where.... We expect, and in many cases design our lessons so that children become passive absorbers of knowledge. There are class rules that involve lots of great aspects of behaviour for learning (concentration, listening, focusing) BUT the Oracy drops off massively compared to the EYFS environments. So we need some new class rules in Years 1 and above. I'll start it off... To contribute, share your ideas, thoughts and build upon your classmates ideas in class To be brave and say your opinion without the fear of failure or embarrassment To have opportunities to debate, study and problem solve together Anymore to add?

Through the many conversations I've had with educational professionals passionate about making a difference, one recurring theme stands out: the collective desire to move away from summative assessments. However, given the deep-rooted policy, tradition, and long history of using these assessments to measure understanding, it's clear that we can't completely eliminate them. But we can take meaningful steps towards introducing AfL (Assessment for Learning), which leverages real-time data and feedback to adapt instruction to better meet the needs of learners. Here's a brief presentation highlighting the benefits of AfL and practical steps to get started. I’d love to hear your thoughts and additional ideas on how to incorporate AfL into our teaching practices!
