The passage highlights several reasons why continued investment in immunization is crucial, even with the impressive progress made: 1. **Unfinished Business:** Despite saving millions, there are still children missing out on vaccines due to various challenges. Reaching these children is vital to maximize the positive impact. 2. **Emerging Threats:** Military conflicts, humanitarian crises, and climate change can disrupt access to vaccines and healthcare, potentially causing setbacks in the progress made against preventable diseases. 3. **Future Potential:** Vaccines remain one of the most effective tools we have to safeguard people's health. Investing in research and development can lead to new vaccines and address emerging health threats. 4. **Equity and Healthier Future:** By ensuring everyone has access to vaccines, we can create a more equitable world where everyone has the chance to live a healthy life. In essence, while we celebrate past achievements, continued investment in immunization is essential to overcome current challenges, prepare for future threats, and build a healthier, more equitable world for all.
Fifty years ago, the world was forever changed by the launch of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI)—a groundbreaking global effort to ensure ALL children have access to life-saving vaccines. Since then, the impact of vaccines on child health around the world has been nothing short of miraculous. During the last 50 years, vaccines have saved an estimated 154 million lives—that’s six lives every minute—around the world. But the work isn’t finished yet. And today there are several challenges that threaten to set this progress back—from military conflicts and humanitarian crises to climate change. Still, the success of the last 50 years serves as a powerful reminder that vaccines are one of the best tools we have to protect people from preventable diseases. By continuing to invest in immunization, it’s #HumanlyPossible to achieve a healthier, more equitable future for all.

From Dr. Edward Jenner's groundbreaking smallpox vaccine in 1796 to today, immunization has been a transformative force in global health, saving over 154 million lives. India has particularly achieved significant milestones such as eradicating polio and neonatal tetanus, while also making substantial progress in full immunization coverage. Despite these successes, challenges persist with vaccine hesitancy and reaching underserved populations. Through collaborative efforts and innovative programs, India is pushing boundaries to ensure healthcare reaches every corner. Discover more about India's journey toward comprehensive immunisation, exploring both triumphs and ongoing challenges in this insightful article that I co-authored with Dr. K. This #WorldImmunizationWeek celebrates the legacy of the Essential Programme on Immunization (EPI) which has saved an estimated 154M lives – 6 lives a minute – over the past 50 years. The progress our world has made against vaccine-preventable diseases is remarkable. Today, children under 10 are 40% more likely to survive to their next birthday compared with children 50 years ago – all because of global efforts to make vaccines more accessible in every country in the world. But with disease outbreaks, climate change, and other global threats presenting new challenges to vaccine delivery, our hard-won progress is in jeopardy. Vaccines remain one of the best investments we can make to stop outbreaks in their tracks and safeguard the futures of children everywhere. With greater commitments to investing in immunization, ending vaccine-preventable disease is #HumanlyPossible. https://lnkd.in/gAVNcRuw

🌍✨ Celebrating the Start of World Immunization Week! As we embark into the world of vaccines, DCVMN reaffirms its commitment to strengthening local manufacturing in developing countries, ensuring access to quality, effective, and affordable vaccines for all. This World Immunization Week marks a monumental milestone –– 50 years of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). It is a testament to our collective efforts in saving and improving countless lives from vaccine-preventable diseases. From eradicating smallpox to nearly defeating polio, immunization campaigns have been one of humanity’s greatest achievements. Today, thanks to vaccines, every child has the chance to survive and thrive. However, amid the pandemic, progress on immunization has faced challenges. While global vaccination rates improved, millions of children still missed out on vital vaccines in 2022. Growing conflicts, economic downturns, and vaccine hesitancy threaten our efforts to reach these children, leading to sudden outbreaks of diseases like diphtheria and measles. While 4 out of 5 children are fully covered by vaccines globally, there is still more work to be done. In 2024, vaccines need urgent funding, so we’re calling on governments and international organizations everywhere to prioritize investment in immunization and local vaccine manufacturing. Let’s protect humanity’s greatest achievement, because no child should die of an illness we know how to prevent. Just imagine –– a future without cervical cancer. A future without polio or malaria. We have done it before. We can do it again. Let’s show the world what’s HUMANLY POSSIBLE! #WorldImmunizationWeek #VaccinesWork #HealthForAll #HumanlyPossible

Successfully Completed Round 1 of #Liberia's nOPV2 #Polio Vaccination Campaign, scheduled for May 10-13. #The 10-day effort required intense planning, logistics, training, coordination across the country and borders, and most importantly supportive supervision. #Thanks to all partners, we reached a significant number of children under recommended standards. Data analysis will give us the actual coverage. #Valuable lessons learned will guide us as we prepare for round two, about a month from now. #EndPolio #PublicHealthemergency #Vaccination https://lnkd.in/ewZhcGcB

Celebrating 50 Years of Life-Saving Immunization A groundbreaking study published by The Lancet reveals a staggering truth: over the past half-century, global immunization efforts have saved an estimated 154 million lives – that's six lives rescued every minute! Led by the World Health Organization (WHO), this study underscores the unparalleled impact of vaccines in safeguarding the health and well-being of communities worldwide. From the eradication of smallpox to the brink of polio eradication, vaccines have been instrumental in shaping a healthier, more resilient world. Yet, amidst these triumphs, challenges remain. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted routine immunization efforts, leaving 67 million children vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases. Now, more than ever, we must increase our efforts to protect and extend the gains of immunization to every corner of the globe. Join me in honouring the remarkable achievements of global immunization efforts and advocating for a world where vaccines are accessible to all. Together, we can make a difference. 💪💉 #VaccinesWork #GlobalHealth #ImmunizationImpact https://lnkd.in/e5HfpsHp.
