The ViaPlus team was in New Delhi for the International Workshop on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) based Electronic Toll Collection in India, hosted in part by the National Highways Authority of India. It was a great opportunity to discuss the future GNSS/ETC system's requirements, and a chance to connect with local representatives in this industry! ViaPlus has served the #ETC market in India since 2013 by providing its Alpha™ back-office system to the country's banks, allowing them to issue #FASTag transponders and process toll transactions for drivers with Alpha's™ issuing and acquiring features. To provide seamless and barrier-free tolling experience to National Highway users and enhance efficiency & transparency of toll operations, Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a company promoted by NHAI has invited Global Expression of Interest (EOI) from innovative and qualified companies to develop and implement GNSS-based Electronic Toll Collection system in India. NHAI plans to implement the GNSS-based Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system within the existing FASTag ecosystem, initially using a hybrid model where both RFID-based ETC and GNSS-based ETC will operate simultaneously. Dedicated GNSS lanes will be available at toll plazas, allowing vehicles using the GNSS-based ETC to pass through freely. Just looking at this new device from Motorola and the product Dimetra Connect and am trying to figure out if it could feature on the transition onto ESN in the UK? It seems that it is designed for primary use on Tetra TMO with the ability to fall back onto broadband/LTE if there is a loss of coverage. I suspect that when we go live with ESN the bigger challenge will be losing LTE coverage and having a need to fall back onto Tetra DMO. In the UK the majority of the Emergency Services tend to increase their Tetra coverage with E2 uplifts. It will be interesting to see if it features in the eco-system of devices we adopt moving forwards. #Motorola #ESN #ESMCP

According to Cellular Operators Association of India - COAI, the electromagnetic fields (EMF) exposure norms in India will deteriorate 5G resulting in slower speeds, lower network quality, and inferior signal strength. Bharti Airtel Services and Reliance Jio have invested heavily into rolling out 5G, however, there is no monetisation scope from the consumers currently. COAI said that most telcos are using higher frequency spectrum for 5G which requires higher power which in turn emit higher radiation.
