Our commitment to these conversations stems from our unique position as specialists in integrating subsystems with SCADA solutions for metro rail automation projects. Working out of the Calgary office, she's responsible for code implementation of technical requirements, gathering technical requirements and assisting with software design. Read about Kelly's experiences working in the tech sector below➡️: 🔊 Driving Diversity: Inspirational Women Transforming Tech Culture ✅ Inclusion in the Workplace: I graduated from University of Alberta in computer engineering, and saw the same percentage of women in my graduating class (just under 20%) as when I entered the tech industry. Despite the small number of women in the profession, I rarely felt excluded, which I attribute to each of my employers' efforts to cultivate inclusion in their company culture. ✅ Diversity: Being a visible minority, I'm happy to say that I've worked in places with visible minorities and women at all levels of leadership. I'm grateful that my personal experience has been very positive, and I hope more people like myself can access these opportunities. ✅ Advice: Don't be afraid to speak up, represent yourself and showcase your strengths. Be confident in yourself and trust your abilities. 🌟 Exciting Times at the Women IN Tech Symposium! 🌟 I had the pleasure of attending the first Women IN Tech Symposium at Vincennes this week for Indiana Women IN Tech Week, and it was an incredible experience! The event was packed with insightful talks and fantastic opportunities to speak with like-minded individuals. Although tech spans numerous fields, one of the most surprising and delightful aspects of the conference was the diversity of the attendees. I was particularly impressed by the range of backgrounds among the women I met, including those from the automotive, naval tech, cybersecurity, and more "traditional" computer application-related industries. Engaging with these women allowed me to learn about their unique challenges and innovative solutions in their respective fields, which made the experience even more enriching. One of the key takeaways from the conference was recognizing that many women, despite their impressive backgrounds and expertise, initially felt hesitant to put themselves out there. Many mentioned their fear of failure and lack of experience as key factors in this hesitation. In fact, research indicated that women were more likely to avoid failure than men, which can get in the way of career goals, as cited by Tara Mohr in an article from Harvard Business Review. Reflecting on her experiences, one panelist, Karen Diggs, co-founder of the Indiana CTO Council, shared, “Failure is the first attempt in learning.” Another panelist, Caitlyn Stoltz, an information system security manager, joked that it was good to learn from your own mistakes and fail, but not in front of your boss. Their courage to step forward and share their experiences was truly inspiring and highlighted the importance of fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Reflecting on my own journey in the tech industry, even though I am still relatively new, I can relate to the initial hesitation and fear of failure that many women expressed. Previously, I often felt the same way, especially when tackling complex projects/problems or stepping into leadership roles. However, I’ve learned that embracing these challenges and viewing failures as learning opportunities has been crucial for my growth. The insights shared at the symposium have reinforced my belief in the power of resilience and the importance of supporting one another in our professional journeys, regardless of gender. #WomenInTechWeek #WomenINTech #Vincennes

Today is International Women in Engineering Day. Here's to all of the fantastic women Engineers in my network - keep rocking it and doing what you do. You're inspiring the next generation more than you'll ever know. The figures vary, but broadly only 10-20% of engineers are women. A lot of potential Engineers have their career choices removed from them at an early age by the influence of parents, teachers and peers. In Engineering, diversity of thought is key and if the Engineering community better refelcts the society it serves, it has to be a good thing.
