During one of the hottest summers on record in the #UK, a dedicated strawberry grower has managed to maintain operations, thanks to innovative greenhouse equipment. This grower partnered with J. Huete Greenhouses in 2021 to construct a greenhouse designed for year-round strawberry cultivation, shielding the crop from both winter cold and, unexpectedly, extreme summer heat. The centerpiece of this greenhouse is the double-skin inflated plastic, a cutting-edge feature known for its exceptional energy efficiency. This technology, combined with shading screens and hydroponic systems, maintains a stable internal temperature. While initially designed to retain heat during winter, it proved invaluable this summer by preventing overheating. Temperatures inside the greenhouse were more than 6°C cooler than outside, enabling continued strawberry production while neighboring growers faced significant crop losses due to the heatwave. The success story underscores the effectiveness of our integrated approach at J. Huete Greenhouses. Our solutions leverage a combination of features like double plastic coating, energy-saving screens, and advanced cooling technologies. This holistic approach is essential for crop protection, particularly in regions experiencing extreme heat. Sadly, due to the climatic change, nowadays there are more and more regions with this problem. This achievement fills us with pride and emphasizes the tangible benefits of our innovative research and technology implementation for our clients. At J. Huete Greenhouses, we’re committed to advancing agriculture through cutting-edge solutions that drive productivity and economic success.
