Nitin Sanket, assistant professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Robotics Engineering Department, and his team are using their Vicon system to help advance the creation of small, autonomous robots. Taking his cues from creatures such as insects and hummingbirds, Sanket hopes to program drones that can navigate cluttered environments, dynamically evade moving obstacles and safely navigate through small gaps. To get to a point where his robots won’t need a system such as motion capture to navigate, Sanket first needs to use motion capture as his source of ground truth. PING is using their Vicon system at Loughborough University to push the boundaries of golf performance and female golf biomechanics. "We want as much speed as we can get. And the reason the Valkyrie cameras are so good is because they have such a wide field of view that when we run at high speeds, we’re not losing any of the golf swing that we want to measure."
