So, the top tips gleaned today for when an HSE inspector calls: 1. Always be polite and accommodating. “No you can’t come in, we are about to close” is not the response to give! 2. Notify your H&S team and senior managers as soon as possible. 3. Always tell the truth. 4. If you don’t know, then say so. 5. Record all interactions as soon as you can after the visit. 6. By all means push back if you don’t agree, but always be polite and reasonable. 7. Always ask your inspector what their background is. 8. An HSE inspector will rarely ask a question that they do not already know the answer to. The purpose is to see if you know, either as an individual or as an organisation. Can you think of any more?!
