Half way through the year and I feel like I’ve pulled or pulling away from so many things this year, compared to oh we need to do that job it’s amazing. When I set the company up it was always to have the right people in the right jobs. I’m now finding myself working with people who have staff on site because they just need a body, which I get. But you still have to utilise those who have competence and skills. We have people that have been with us for 8 years, that doesn’t mean they’re capable for response, it also doesn’t mean that MR big man that joined yesterday who’s hard as nails should be either. Have we missed out on a couple of jobs this year that we’d like to of done and have done previously? Yes. Why? Because I didn’t have every tick in the box for 119 and ACS. But instead of the companies just saying ah we can’t use you because you’re not 100% compliance. Why not help those who haven’t got that list tick to achieve it. I’m dam sure this is what we will be doing going forward. I’d rather have the right people in the right job and support for a tick on a piece of paper than a compliance manager who knows how to do every tick yet the company can’t deliver the right staff. Morals will always come before money with me. Once that’s compromised then you have nothing left.
Such wise words, unfortunately most events or venues are only interested in the cheapest option & that invariably means the correct numbers whether they have experience or are capable of carrying out the role required, time & time again we are working alongside other companies who have supplied DS that can barely speak English & have zero interactive skills with the customers & guests & it will only be when the **** hits the fan that questions will be asked & even then the stakeholders will pass the blame onto the company that supplied the staff.
It's good to see these views of competence over compliance being expressed. Take heart that this view is on the rise in a sector whose essential outcome is public safety.
Perfectly said Victoria.
So true
Not sure what I can do, if anything, but if I can help at all Vic, just give me a shout.
