🎉 Today marked one year at Kraft Heinz —what a ride! 🎉 When I started, I knew I was stepping into a role unlike any other—one that would let me influence strategy and performance philosophy across every corner of the business. But what I didn’t fully grasp was just how much I would grow and how deeply I’d be inspired by the people I get to work with every day. I am incredibly lucky to be part of a Great Performance Team with leaders who have clear vision toward the future. There’s something special about being surrounded by teams that are all in on driving the business forward: 🔑 Procurement: They’re constantly pushing boundaries, finding smarter ways to innovate our supply chain and keep us ahead. 🍅 Operations: Watching them transform through digital innovation has been like getting a front-row seat to the future. 🤝 People & Performance: The team’s dedication to creating a culture that prioritizes people and fosters collaboration has reshaped my view of what’s possible in the workplace. 💰 Finance & Legal: These teams bring such sharp focus and strategic insight that you can’t help but feel grounded in their confidence. 📈 Growth: Harnessing creativity and consumer insights to build connections with consumers and bring our iconic brands to life. But what’s blown me away the most is the diversity here. It’s inspiring to see leaders from every part of the world working together to make a global impact. And personally, I never thought I’d get to look up to a CEO who’s also a fellow "Boricua" —someone whose story feels so close to my own. That kind of representation means the world to me, and it’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when inclusivity and belonging are more than just words on a page. Every meeting, every project, every conversation has reinforced one thing: the people here are on fire, laser-focused on delivering our bold 10-year strategy. That kind of energy is contagious, and it’s what makes me so excited for what’s next. I can’t wait to keep growing, contributing, and helping Kraft Heinz create a performance framework that’s not just great—it’s something the rest of the world will want to copy. Annual review reflection As the year wraps up and my annual reviews take place, I’ve been reflecting on the highs and lows of my own career. Overthinking what I’ve learned, not just from the successes, but mainly from the struggles. Growth categories and declining ones both shaped me, but in very different ways. During my Unilever career, I’ve had the privilege of working in fast-growing categories where everything seemed to fall into place. Every activation worked, every customer conversation was an easy sell, and momentum carried the team forward. It’s a thrilling experience, like you’re unstoppable. At times, I really felt like a “king,” convinced I had all the answers and was genuinely great at what I did. Backed by a great end of year rating. But then there were the times I worked in declining categories, where reality hit hard. Here, every move was a battle. Constantly explaining why results are down, trying to push through plans that people hesitate to back because “nothing’s working so far.” That feeling of invincibility quickly disappears. I started questioning myself, Am I really that good? Worsened by a low end of year rating. What I’ve learned is that while growing categories are really exciting and fun, it was in the declining ones that I truly grew. Because what stands out most to me is how the things I’ve done in those moments of decline have stuck with me. They’re the stories I share most often in (development) conversations, not because they were perfect, but because they taught me the most. The plans that felt impossible, the wins that came after countless “nos,” and the creativity born from constraints, those are the experiences that truly shaped me. 📸 And just like enduring declining categories in business, sitting here at F1 taught me resilience (and the importance of bringing a better raincoat). Personal Growth📈 Continuing the #NestleNSPLinkedInChallenge, I’m reminded of how much I’ve grown. From day one, being a Nestlé NSP has pushed me in ways I never expected. Today, I’m taking a moment to reflect on how far I’ve come as a Nestlé NSP. The growth has been real — both personally and professionally! Hard Skills I’ve sharpened my Excel and AutoCAD skills, gaining hands-on experience in process optimization, quality control and environmental safety🌱 — making sure everything runs smoothly and sustainably. 🚀💧 Soft Skills On the softer side, I’ve strengthened my leadership abilities and honed my assertiveness in decision-making. Managing the labor force and keeping operations smooth has taught me how to lead confidently and remain calm under pressure. 💪 Teamwork, clear communication, and staying results-focused have become second nature. So today, with two balls of banku, a bowl of okro soup, and some fresh fish 😂🤤 I’m not just celebrating the holiday — I’m celebrating the growth, the skills I’ve gained, and the journey ahead. As the semester comes to a close, I would like to reflect on my time well spent in Diverse Voices. A course at the University of Florida that explores the critical role of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in public relations. This course has shown me how these principles are essential not only for communication but also for fostering equitable and meaningful environments. Over the semester, I had the opportunity to collaborate with peers and deepen my understanding of how companies embrace DEI. My team conducted extensive research on Kraft Heinz, focusing on its DEI initiatives. One that stood out was the company’s robust Business Resource Groups (BRGs). These employee-led networks support learning and development, help recruit diverse talent, foster community and guide leadership in challenging times. BRGs are essential to making DEI a core part of Kraft Heinz’s culture and competitive advantage. As Kraft Heinz Global Head, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Crystal Andrews Banks, MA (she / her / hers) said, “DEI&B is part of the fabric of who we are and how we show up as a company, and a core component of our company culture – which is our competitive advantage. The different backgrounds and perspectives of our employees help enable our innovation. This diversity of thought allows us to develop new ideas, challenge the status quo, push the boundaries on creativity, and make the best, well-informed decisions.” I’d like to thank my wonderful professor Ajia Meux for fostering an open space to discuss DEI. In a retail environment of ever-increasing complexity, ambiguity, and continuous change, companies and their employees have to be able to adapt and evolve, as well. Last year, Whole Foods Market launched a ten-year vision called “Where are you growing?” to help instill that mindset in its team members and address one of the key drivers of engagement today: opportunities for upskilling and career advancement. Mike Van Lente, Executive Leader of Learning and Development at Whole Foods, discussed this program during MOHR Retail’s recent webinar. As he noted, the learning and development programs are designed to put team members on successful career paths within the company. The company starts promoting this continuous learning and growing environment in the hiring process, and from day one during orientation and onboarding, showcasing the career pathways available to employees. This setup helps them to recruit the top candidates and then develop a healthy pipeline of leaders and artisan talents to help fuel the pipeline of stores.
