11.11.2022... the date that became a symbol for the residents of Kherson region - liberation that brought not only happiness, but also unbearable pain. It seems like only 730 days after the occupation, but in fact it is the eternity. 15,520 hours of pain, anxious anticipation, endless minutes when the heart trembles from every explosion. Is this freedom worth such a terrible price? Destroyed lives, empty houses, silent fearful streets that seem to be frozen in anticipation. But the people of Kherson know that they will not exchange this chance to be free for the quiet terror of occupation. Volunteers, public figures, caring people - there are few of them, but they continue the fight. Their hearts save the Kherson region today. The NGO City of Power has been a reliable shoulder for Kherson and its region for three years now, and since November 11, 2022, we realized that we measure these two years not in time, but in tons of help, in steps towards revival, in projects, in small and large victories, in the warmth of an outstretched hand, in how someone finds new hope among the ruins.

🚨The urgent call for ukrainain family reunification in so called “peace agreements” 🇺🇸🇺🇦 We hear so much news about options to reach a peace agreement that may involve giving occupied territories to Russia. This is wrong and deeply troubling. It’s not just about land; it’s about real people—families and children who are living in fear and uncertainty every day. These innocent ukrainain children have already faced too much pain. They deserve safety, and a chance to grow up without the shadow of war hanging over them. A peace agreement must include the return of children who have been deported to Russia, allowing them to come back to their families without any conditions. No child should have to endure separation from their loved ones, especially after all they have suffered. ‼️Allowing Russia to keep these territories while ignoring the rights of children is simply unacceptable. 👉We must fight to ensure that the voices of those living under occupation are heard and that their needs are prioritised. 👉We must stand up for a future where families can be together in peace. 👉In short, we should demand a peace agreement that not only protects the rights of families but guarantees the safe return of every child to their home, free from fear and full of hope. 📸 Picture taken by Emile Foundation in the frontline village of Kharkiv, Zalochiv, January 2025.

#Kharkiv is among the most heavily damaged cities in #Ukraine due to the ongoing Russian aggression. The war has devastated numerous areas of this city, which was not only one of Ukraine’s largest, with a population exceeding one million, but also an industrial powerhouse. Before the war, Kharkiv was renowned for being one of the greenest and most well-maintained cities in the country. Unfortunately, its proximity to the Russian-Ukrainian border made it a prime target, leaving much of it in ruins. This is why the involvement of well-established international firms like Cundall is so vital. By collaborating with Ukrainian architectural bureaus and local experts, they can help develop a comprehensive urban plan to restore Kharkiv—not just to its former glory but as an even more beautiful, sustainable, and vibrant city of the future. As a professional in the renewable energy sector and an expert in the energy market, I would like to emphasize the importance of integrating advanced renewable energy solutions into these rebuilding efforts. In addition to technologies like integrated solar systems and vertical solar panels, I would also like to draw attention to the critical role of smart grid solutions in developing Kharkiv’s energy infrastructure. Smart grids offer a reliable, efficient, and resilient energy distribution network that can support the city’s redevelopment and ensure sustainability for decades to come. By leveraging innovative approaches like energy storage systems, microgrids, and demand-side management, we can not only power the city but also make it a model of energy efficiency and modernity. We at VOLTAGE Group will be happy to support it. Moreover, I believe we should shift our perspective from “rebuilding” Ukrainian cities to designing and constructing a new generation of cities. Many of the urban areas we inherited from the Soviet era were not built with modern engineering, efficiency, or sustainability in mind. Instead of simply restoring what once was, we have the opportunity to reimagine and construct cities that are technologically advanced, eco-friendly, and designed for the future. Dear Olga Litkovets thank you for sharing such great news! Some project competitions touch hearts and impact lives… 🇺🇦 ‘Healing Kharkiv: From rubble to renewal’ competition by Norman Foster Foundation was a very special project and close to my heart. Cundall 's engineering team collaborated with Gensler and local Ukrainian Architects and suppliers to develop a design that won the competition and most importantly will help Ukraine to rebuild cities as soon as the war is over. It focuses on people and communities, moving beyond material reconstruction. It takes into consideration emotional healing, providing spaces that encourage social cohesion and support resilience. It also sets a benchmark for sustainable residential development that can be replicated across Ukraine. I am extremely proud and touched by the dedication of our engineers and architects to create such remarkable design solutions! The prize money that our Cundall-Gensler team won has been donated to a charity to support children in Ukraine during the war. Thank you to all my amazing colleagues, the Gensler team and Ukrainian team for putting your hearts and minds into this! Watch a short video below to hear from the team. #makinganimpact #workwithpurpose #supportUkraine

What do we mean when we call a #church a #sanctuary? Does the term #sanctuary evoke a quiet space of personal spiritual reflection, or is it a physical community offering sanctuary from violence and hunger? Can it be both? As the international community urgently responds to yet another humanitarian crisis in Haiti, and as INGOs strive to demonstrate their relevance in their first-response efforts, it's crucial to recognize that Haitian CSOs and church leaders are already on the ground, providing immediate assistance. The photos above are from local #Wesleyan churches in southern #Haiti accommodating families fleeing Haiti's gang violence in Port-au-Prince—a very literal church sanctuary. " Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. " Saint James, the brother of Jesus. What does it mean to be relevant in a humanitarian crisis—pallets on a plane or a pastor in the parish? At World Hope International, the answer is usually both. But we know the frontline and first response are local—already present and relevant. Stand with World Hope in supporting the local church initiatives that are the backbone of the sanctuary movement, providing a haven for those affected by violence in Haiti. https://lnkd.in/e-7yRaCG P.S. Does anyone remember the "Sanctuary Movement" within the North American church in the 1980s?

*The Holy Qur’an reminds us: "And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely." (Qur’an 5:32). " *The Torah teaches us: "Love your neighbor as yourself." (Leviticus 19:18). *The Gospel encourages us: "Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." (Hebrews 13:16). I believe that volunteering and helping others is the value of man on earth as many various religious texts echoed , Today, on International Volunteer Day, I celebrate the incredible impact of volunteerism around the world, with a special focus on Africa and Sudan. In regions where conflict has left deep scars, volunteers are the unsung heroes who bring hope, healing, and resilience to communities in need. Volunteerism is more than just an act of service; it is a testament to the value of humanity on Earth. It embodies compassion, solidarity, and the unwavering belief that we can make a difference. In Africa and Sudan, volunteers play a crucial role in providing essential services such as education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid. We help rebuild communities torn apart by conflict and foster peace through understanding and cooperation. As we honor this day, let us recognize the tireless efforts of volunteers who work towards peace and development in challenging environments. Their dedication not only transforms lives but also inspires us all to contribute positively to our world. Let’s continue to support volunteer initiatives that uplift communities in Africa, Sudan, and beyond. Together, we can create a future where every person has the opportunity to thrive. * attached is a vedio from community outreach I coordinated . #InternationalVolunteerDay #Volunteerism #Africa #Sudan #PeaceBuilding #CommunityService

The Nakba, UN Resolutions, and the Palestinian Question: A History Brief The Nakba: The Nakba, meaning "catastrophe" in Arabic, refers to the displacement of Palestinians in 1948 following the creation of the State of Israel. Estimates suggest around 750,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from their homes during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. This displacement had a profound impact on Palestinian society, creating a large refugee population that continues to this day. UN Resolutions: * Resolution 181 (1947): This resolution proposed the partition of Palestine into two states, one Arab and one Jewish. The resolution also called for the protection of the rights of minorities. The proposal was accepted by the Jewish community but rejected by the Arab leadership. * Resolution 194 (1948): Passed in December 1948, this resolution called for the "right of return" for Palestinian refugees to their homes and compensation for those who choose not to return. However, this resolution has not been implemented. Considerations of the Resolutions: * Right of Return: A core issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Palestinians view the right of return as essential for a just resolution. Israel argues that a large-scale return of refugees would threaten its Jewish character. * Security Concerns: Israel cites security concerns as a reason for limiting the right of return. * Practical Challenges: Implementing the right of return after so many years presents logistical and demographic challenges. Consequences of the Nakba: * Palestinian Refugee Crisis: Millions of Palestinians remain displaced, creating a major humanitarian issue. The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) provides assistance to Palestinian refugees. * Ongoing Conflict: The unresolved refugee issue remains a source of tension and contributes to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Accountability of the UN: The question of UN accountability for the situation is complex: * The UN did not directly cause the Nakba. * The UN has played a role in attempting to resolve the conflict through resolutions and peace processes. Critics argue the UN has not been effective in enforcing its resolutions or holding Israel accountable for actions seen as violating Palestinian rights. It's important to consider different perspectives: * Palestinian Perspective: Palestinians feel the UN has not done enough to ensure their right of return and end the Israeli occupation. * Israeli Perspective: Israel argues the UN is biased against Israel and fails to acknowledge Palestinian responsibility for the conflict. The Path Forward: Implementation of a solution to the right of return and the status of Jerusalem. The UN can play a role in facilitating negotiations and holding both sides accountable for upholding international law. Will1e-(pronounced) Will-one-e Hill

The United Nations’ decision to partition Palestine ignited this conflict, leading to the establishment of the State of Israel. However, this momentous event also resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes and lands. Families torn apart, villages erased, and lives forever changed—the Nakba remains etched in the collective memory of Palestinians. The Long Walk of the Well-worn Palestine sandal 1948-2024 Here I am in 2024 and nothing has changed, I have been told to leave my house, which has been in the family for more than 70 generations, the olive garden has been here for just as long, if not longer. It whispers to the vulnerable, the marginalized, and the oppressed: “You are not forgotten.” As you do the walks, you carry the hopes of pregnant mothers, newborns, and children up to six years old and all that have passed before. These are the lives you uplift, one step at a time. We are up to our third wish for you for the upcoming holidays, and like so many beauty pageant contestants, we wish for world peace. Yes, it's a tall order. We think you're worth it. It can seem an impossible dream, but there are people working on it. On a larger scale, Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG) of Peterborough is invested in looking for peaceful resolutions to conflict and addressing the atrocities that come with war. There are also many agencies with chapters in Peterborough advocating for an end to wars and civil conflict. Helping those who are fleeing civil unrest or persecution is also very important. We cannot overlook the work done by our dear friends at the New Canadians Centre, who are ready at a moment's notice to zip up to Toronto to welcome refugees from countries where staying is a death sentence. Imagine living in a place where you can't attend to basic tasks like shopping, going to school/work or worshipping as is your faith without worrying about being shot at or bombed. Nobody should have to. We may feel that as an individual, we have little impact on world events. But many individuals banded together can make a difference. As the sign hanging in your humble author's office says, Saving humanity is a group project. As we know from experience, group projects work better when everyone contributes. We wish you peace. #HolidaySeason #BestWishes #WorldPeace #WarIsOverIfYouWantIt #PeaceOnEarth
