JULY is #Sarcoma Awareness Month 📣 💡 Check out this video from #ASCO2024 | Overview of managing #CNS #metastases in #pediatric #Ewingsarcoma🎥 Leonora Slatnick, MD, University of Utah provides an overview of managing #centralnervoussystem (CNS) #metastases in #pediatric patients with #Ewingsarcoma (ES) The lack of standardized management and the poor outcomes for these patients are highlighted 📉 Although outcomes may differ from other metastatic or relapsed diseases, the small cohort size makes it unclear One case involved a patient with incomplete resection who underwent high-dose #chemotherapy with #stemcell rescue and achieved long-term survival, which is unusual 🔦 Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dm347SnH #VJOncology #Oncologynews #SarcomaAwarenessMonth

Recent study reveals critical insights into Pediatric Hepatocellular Adenomas (HCAs). Predominantly affecting girls, these benign liver tumors often develop due to conditions like glycogen storage disease, portosystemic shunts, or hormone exposure. Although generally benign, HCAs pose significant risks, with about 25% leading to bleeding and 15% to malignant transformation. Management strategies include vigilant monitoring and, if necessary, surgical interventions such as resection or liver transplantation to handle complications. This study underscores the importance of personalized treatment plans based on the specific predisposing factors. 🌟🔬 #HealthcareInnovation #PediatricOncology

🔬📄 Thrilled to share our latest publication on Childhood Cerebral Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) in the journal Degenerative Neurological and Neuromuscular Disease! 🚀🧠 Our case report highlights the urgent need for newborn screening (NBS) for ALD, particularly in regions where it is not yet implemented. We discuss a case of a 10-year-old boy whose condition rapidly progressed despite symptomatic management. The paper emphasizes the need for global implementation of NBS and continuous pediatric neurologic follow-up. 🌍👶🩺 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gxaCZFnX #MedicalResearch #Neurology #Genetics #ALD #NewbornScreening #Pediatrics #HealthcareInnovation #ScientificBreakthrough 🔬📚🧠

We are pleased to announce the publication of a review article entitled "Advances in the approaches used to repurpose drugs for neuroblastoma" by the Neural Tumors laboratory in the journal Expert Opinion on Drug. The review, led by Dr. Miquel F Segura, provides insight into the essential strategies for developing new therapies against neuroblastoma. It also underscores the significant challenges posed by this pediatric tumor, given that only one new treatment has been approved in the last 30 years. Marta Miera Maluenda and the other contributors are to be commended for their work on this compilation of advances in neuroblastoma research over the past decades. #publication #scientific #scientificarticle #pediatric #congrats #congratulations #achievement #study #potential #therapeutic #patients #paper #childhood #childhoodcancer #child #children #cancer #pacientes #salud #healthcare #hospital #clinicaltrials #clinics #trials #drug #innovative #therapies

I am excited to share Maple Health Group, LLC's latest publication in which I am a co-author! This SLR evaluates the current evidence base regarding the treatment of pediatric classical Hodgkin's Lymphoma in the United States. Although, it generally has a high overall survival rate, the toxicity and long-term effects of treatment over a patients life time are of great concern. The current evidence shows that a greater proportion of patients achieved 3-and 5-year progression/event free survival when treated with a brentuximab vedotin (BV) containing regimen. BV is a antibody conjugate therapy that provides a more targeted treatment, potentially reducing the need for subsequent rounds of chemotherapy. This is a promising finding as we continue to improve upon therapeutics options in this precious population.
In collaboration with Seagen, Inc (now Pfizer), Maple Health Group, LLC is pleased to announce our recent publication in Pediatric Blood & Cancer! A comprehensive systematic literature review of US studies for the treatment of pediatric classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) revealed that a greater proportion of pediatric patients with cHL were able to achieve 3- and 5-year event/progression free-survival when treated with brentuximab vedotin containing regiments releative to other chemotherapy treatments across comparative (n=2) and non-comparative (n=6) studies. Treatments that effectively reduce a patient's likelihood for disease progression, mitigate the need for subsequent treatments that often increase in intensity/toxicity and/or invasiveness. Congratulations to Maple consultants Chris Waters-Banker, PhD and Rachel Beckerman, as well as their co-authors, on this important publication. How can #Bayesian borrowing approaches enhance the statistical analysis of #baskettrials and #pediatric studies and what impact could these methods have on the evaluation of treatment efficacy in #rare indications? Emma Mackay from Inka Health, will be presenting at the Statistical Society of Canada / Société statistique du Canada Annual Meeting at Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow afternoon in Room C2045. The session is organized by Aaron Springford from AstraZeneca and will be chaired by Audrey Béliveau from University of Waterloo. https://lnkd.in/gxw2iJEz In her talk, Emma will address the pressing challenges in evaluating efficacy for rare indications, focusing on the application of Bayesian hierarchical models, power priors, and meta-analytic predictive priors. These innovative approaches facilitate dynamic borrowing of information, improving statistical precision and power in #clinicaltrials where patient recruitment is a significant hurdle. Emma's discussion will include practical recommendations, such as leveraging historical control arms and integrating data from adult populations to support #pediatrictrials. Her insights into #baskettrials, which recruit patients based on shared #biomarkers across multiple disease types, highlight the potential for more efficient and effective #research. #BayesianMethods #ClinicalTrials #clinicaltrial #RareDiseases #BasketTrials #PediatricResearch #StatisticalInnovation #EfficacyEvaluation #DynamicBorrowing #DataScience #oncology #SSC2024 #HealthcareAnalytics #PrecisionMedicine #BayesianBorrowing #MedicalResearch #PatientCare #SSC #MemorialUniversity #pediatrics
