Our Canadian colleagues recently hosted a customer event at La ToHu in Montreal, an event space and cultural center that focuses on contemporary circus performance and is the first LEED Gold certified green building in Quebec.
Customers across Montreal were invited to attend and enjoy refreshments, networking, and circus performances as well as a demo from Technical Trainer Pete Enrichs.
Lucky winners received a RIDGID Tools kit, and the evening was topped off with a celebratory #Viega125 cake! 🍰

The skyliner is mainly used for festivals and sporting events, where the extra height means that employees can quickly get an overview of the activities.
The additional space means that it is easier to communicate and coordinate tasks because more key people can work under the same roof.

Paris = Silicon Valley? Yes.
Loads of fun doing the attached interview in Paris with Clarence at @Streetfilms. His films are brief, highly visual, and packed with information. Very punchy content!
There's a lot to love about the city. As Audrey Hepburn said "It's always a good time for Paris." But as a Silicon Valley careerist, I feel a particular connection with Paris, and as a result, spend a large part of each year there.
For a number of decades, the Valley has had an outsized impact on exciting ideas that change the world, and I wanted to be a part of it. I left Canada to build a career here. Before that, for the longest time, Paris was THE central hub on the planet for novel thinkers, "dangerous" ideas, and "think fast and break things." I'm talking about the Enlightenment, Rousseau, Voltaire, & also the early 20th century when Picasso, Hemingway, Van Gogh, Gertrude Stein, Josephine Baker, and everyone with a vision for change swapped ideas at the cafés.
But in the latter 20th, Paris languished as a poop-strewn, horn-blaring, traffic-infested, dirty river mess (OK, it was never terrible!) But lately, thanks to visionary leadership from Anne Hidalgo, her deputies, David Belliard , & some predecessors like Bertrand Delanoë, Paris is again an important example to the rest of the world. As before, some of the leading thinkers, like Carlos Moreno (La ville des 15 minutes) are drawn into the city to take, and give fresh ideas. But this time, the innovations are about the role of the city itself in the daily lives of its citizens.
It is this zeitgeist. This courage to scrap the endless "committee" & "pilot project" mentality, and instead to forge ahead that attracts me to Paris now. This innovator's willingness to move fast reminds me of Silicon Valley startups, & it's equally energizing. And while the Bay Area layers it on top of sunshine, ocean, & mountains, Paris layers it on top of some phenomenal architecture and heritage.
But this isn't reckless like Silicon Valley. The studies have been done. The examples are available from all around the world, from Copenhagen to Delft to Montreal to Mumbai. Cities need new ways of solving mobility, & we know some of the answers, but often don't implement them because people fear change.
But, bestowed with long 6-year terms, the mayor of Paris has the leeway to take a courageous stand, suffer some arrows in the back, & then let the work speak for itself. Six years later, Hidalgo was reelected, the people basically responding positively to a referendum on her work. Now in her second and final term, she has not slowed down, in fact she's leveraged Covid lockdowns & the Olympics as doorways to forge ahead.
A propos of nothing, the Olympics slogan is "Citius, Altius, Fortius - Communiter" or "Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together."
There's no medal for slow progress. Allons vite. Go Team Paris!
Thanks to Stacey Randecker for the intro to meet Clarence when he visited.

Boat shows - What does the future hold? Some great insights were shared by Ed Slack after the recent IFBSO/ICOMIA Conference. Read the full article by following the link below.
And share your comments and ideas about how we can develop and grow boat shows to add value to the organisers, boating industry and the VISITOR!
Marine Business Advisor at GMBA | Driving Growth and Building Networks
During the recent ICOMIA / IFBSO Congress, Ed Slack moderated a panel discussion on the value and future of boat shows. This must have been an engaging discussion. I hope more attendees share their insights via social media or Linked In so we can share along the important journey of maximizing boat shows for the industry's broader benefit.
A few observations from his interesting article:
1. The Experiential Element
Boating taps into all our senses, and therein lies the magic. To share this joy with newcomers, we need to capture some of that experience. A static show with boats on stands doesn't draw people in the same way. The NMMA's idea of bringing a "party" vibe is excellent. It can appeal to newcomers and add excitement without overshadowing serious buyers seeking information to finalize purchases.
The examples of simulators and live-action events were fantastic and easily replicable. They mention the example of an America’s Cup simulator at a recent event and how it brought the event to “live”. During the recent Monaco Grand Prix, some superyachts had racing simulators onboard to keep guests engaged during racing lulls.
2. High Exhibiting Costs
Companies are under pressure and must see the value of attending a show. Foot traffic and visitor numbers play a role, but tangible sales are equally important. Some companies need to work on their boat show presence and efforts to make the show a success, not solely relying on organisers to bring people in. On the flip side, organisers need a clear plan to entice visitors who could otherwise pop into a dealer's open day for a free beer and demo test drive.
3. Appealing to Non-Boating Customers
Hillary Buckman of Ocean Media recently asked a critical question in her newsletter introduction: "Who is reaching out to the non-boating community?" (link in comments below)
Other leisure pursuits are more attractive to newcomers. We should learn how to pique interest in our industry among time-strapped people.
4. No quick fix
A long-term view is vital, understanding boat shows' compounding benefits. The trajectory should be upwards yearly, building on past lessons.
Success requires industry-wide commitment, with companies investing time and thought into attracting clients from all circles, not just their own. We must grow the market, fostering interest and involvement to view boating as a rewarding career and family activity. The entire value chain is key - no customers, no boat show.
It is a great article, so please follow the link below and read it. Then, please leave some comments and suggestions below.

Boating and nautical industry specialist. Everything about boat sales, management, consulting, insurance, registration solutions, boat maintenance, organizing sales and after sale services.
Cannes boat show 2024 is over. Thanks to all partners, clients and visitors which took their valuable time to be there. If you asked me this was one of the most chalinging and mysterious Cannes boat show ever and this was number 16 for me in row. What this means? At first look boat show was amazing, lot of visitors, all relevant exhibitors, lot of new products, brands, participants, decent athmosphere.... but after final bell lot of questions and doubts remain in the air concerning current moment of boating industry, future development and direction of overall nautical business. I am not talking only of future models, new materials, new technologies, new products...My thoughts are with hundred, thousands of small companies in the industry( smal dealership, smal charter operators, small service providers...).For all of you who will participate at Cannes boat show during coming years answers will be there. For rest of you just enjoy in current moment of your lifes and take care for real values.
