In police work if you ever find yourself in a position where someone is asking you for help and your initial respons is “that’s not my job”, put that thought aside and remember why you chose to take your oath in the first place. People trust us, rely on us, and count on us when they don’t know what to do. It may not always be your job, but I bet with all of your training and experience and the rigorous selection process you have passed that you can probably help that person because you can probably figure out what to do. Don’t limit yourself based on something like a job description or a preconceived notion that cops only do A or B. The way we rebuild trust is by being there for people when they need us regardless of if it is in our wheelhouse or not.

Three pet peeves for job applicants: 1. Having to create yet another user name and password just to apply for a job. Like we don’t have enough of those already. 2. Having to regurgitate your resume to fill in the blanks in the application form when you’re already sending the organization your resume. 3. Taking time to complete #1 and #2 and still never hearing back from the organization. There has to be a better way.
