🌍 Today, September 5th, it’s Spinal Cord Injury Day 🌍 This day is a global initiative of The International Spinal Cord Society - ISCOS to build awareness and promote the inclusion of individuals with disabilities across the world. It serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges faced every day by millions of people living with spinal cord injuries. Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a catastrophic event that thrusts over 15 million people worldwide into a life challenged by disability (source: World Health Organization). People with SCI are at risk of developing debilitating and even life-threatening secondary health conditions such as pressure ulcers, musculoskeletal pain, and neurological, gastrointestinal and urological problems. ⚕️ SCI is a complex and life-changing disease. Its impact is not only limited to the patient but also affects the family, clinical professionals and society as well. Effective prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, and ongoing #health care are essential to alleviate the global burden of SCI.🧑🦽 At ABLE Human Motion, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by SCI. Our innovative exoskeleton technology (currently available in Europe for clinical use) enables individuals with SCI to stand up and walk again, improving their mobility, health and quality of life.💡 On this World SCI Day, we honour the resilience and strength of the SCI community and reaffirm our commitment to our mission: democratizing robotic exoskeletons so more people can benefit from this life-changing technology. We believe that mobility is a human right, and we will continue to work tirelessly towards a future where everyone has access to it. 🤖 Learn more about spinal cord injuries here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dMStheet And about the clinical benefits of robotic exoskeletons here 👉 https://lnkd.in/ee8GwfvH Together, we can make a difference. 🌟 #WorldSCIDay #SpinalCordInjury #AbleHumanMotion #Innovation #MobilitySolutions #AssistiveTechnology #SCI #HealthTech #Exoskeleton #Inclusion #Independence #DisabilityAwareness

What are the treatment options for cavernoma? Most people with a cavernoma (1 in 625 people) will have no symptoms, but for those with the rarer symptomatic form (1 in 2,700 people) the first sign of having a cavernoma may include a haemorrhage, seizure or other focal neurological deficit (e.g. double vision, slurred speech). There are currently three treatment options: Wait and see Neurosurgery Stereotactic radiosurgery (also known as Gamma Knife) ‘Wait and see’ involves monitoring the cavernoma and treating the symptoms (e.g. anti-seizure medication). ‘Neurosurgery’ removes the cavernoma from the brain or spinal cord, and ‘stereotactic radiosurgery’ zaps the cavernoma with radiation. The recommended option will depend on several factors including the symptom history and location of the cavernoma. We are still learning about treatment options with a recent CARE pilot study taking us a step closer to improved understanding. If you’d like to learn more about treatment options and what we’ve learnt from the ‘Cavernomas: A Randomised Effectiveness (CARE) Study’ please watch our short animation at https://lnkd.in/d-8jNrJ6.

Oral Sensory Integration Therapy (OSIT) is a tool-based training program for oral sensory integration in children with special needs and adult stroke, trauma and cancer patients. Sensory Integration of oral musculatures is primarily required to improve the vegetative functions, reduce tactile issues and develop taste. When children miss their speech milestones and do not speak as per their age, they gradually develops flaccidity - their oral musculatures start becoming weak, regulations impair and muscle memory starts fading away. In that case, the neural residual functions need to be reactivated through OSIT for ideal eating and speech development. 11 Million Views on YouTube: MIT-Educated Neurosurgeon Now Chooses Unemployment and Solitude in the Mountains—How Did He End Up Here? The mention of MIT brings something to mind. In science, we constantly push the boundaries of the unknown, striving to discover new elements. But as Taoism reminds us in the Dao De Jing, the real challenge lies not just in uncovering what we don’t know, but in recognizing that there are things we don’t even realize we don’t know. This is far more complex than simply uncovering the unknown. Consider the period in the United States from the 1950s to the 1970s, when hormone replacement therapy (HRT), particularly estrogen, was widely prescribed to postmenopausal women. It was meant to alleviate symptoms like hot flashes and osteoporosis and was also believed to maintain a youthful glow, making the skin appear rosy and radiant. However, later studies revealed that long-term use of HRT could actually increase health risks, including breast cancer. In 2002, a landmark study by the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) found that combining estrogen with progestin (another female hormone) was linked to a higher risk of breast cancer. At its peak, an estimated 15-20 million American women were taking HRT. The WHI study found that for every 10,000 women taking combined HRT for a year, there were an additional 8 cases of breast cancer. What a loss! We often base our decisions on what we know, but the true risk lies in the unknown—especially when we’re unaware of the critical unknown factors. This truth extends to all aspects of life, from personal choices to careers, businesses, and even the destiny of nations. So, what’s the solution? ChatGPT's response isn’t bad at all 👍 .
