🌳 What is Reaction Wood? 🌳 Did you know that trees have a way to adapt when they're under stress? This is where reaction wood comes in! When a tree is tilted or bent—whether from strong winds, uneven ground, or other environmental factors—it produces reaction wood to help it stay upright and stable. For hardwoods (like oak or maple), this special wood, called tension wood, forms on the upper side of a leaning branch or trunk, pulling it back toward the vertical. In softwoods (like pine or spruce), compression wood forms on the underside of the lean, pushing the tree back into alignment. 🌲 Reaction wood shows how trees are constantly adapting to their environment to survive.
