We're beyond excited to announce the launch of our new Development Fund for global unscripted TV and factual entertainment, led by Climate Spring's newly appointed Head of Unscripted, David Leach. From home renovation and nature-friendly farming to competitive formats and noisy pop-docs, this new Fund will provide finance opportunities for production companies with innovative concepts for unscripted TV shows related to the transition away from fossil fuels. Through incentivising the creation of new compelling and commercially viable TV shows, Climate Spring aims to reach mainstream audiences with new formats that are able to engage viewers in climate solutions rather than scare or make them feel guilty. David Leach, Head of Unscripted at Climate Spring, said: "This is a really exciting opportunity to build momentum within the unscripted community around an issue that we all face together. Broadcasters are increasingly asking for ideas in the climate space and I hope to work with production companies to offer innovative and entertaining climate content that reaches under-served audiences. With every episode of SWEET TOOTH that I watch, I grow increasingly frustrated with the resistance I met while developing THE STARSEA BEACH SENTINEL SOCIETY as a family show. Why are platforms/networks so rigid about having a specific "shelf" on which to place a property? "If there are scenes featuring only adults, where will this show live?" Was a constant question as was the statement "Kids don't want to watch adults." As long as it's an integral, contained part of the storyline, I disagree. Demographic-crossing content that is engaging/relatable/accessible is just that. #sweettooth does an incredible job of doing exactly what I strive to do; create entertainment that can be enjoyed by a multigenerational audience. STARSEA features a lot less violence and language than ST - however mild - but is specifically designed for that "entertainment desert" that is the tween+family space. Maybe it's just because the ST series is based on an existing IP, but still, I applaud #netflix for having the vision to venture into territory that seems to be avoided by so many others. There is huge opportunity for quality content in this space. Let's start filling that need.

It’s becoming something of a tradition—once or twice a year, I step in to substitute for my good friend and colleague, Klas-Gunnar Granqvist, as a monitor and playback engineer on *Tanssii Tähtien Kanssa* (Dancing With The Stars) tv-show. With the show running for over 10 seasons, Klas, the tech crew, and the band have honed their own ways of doing things. So, needless to say, filling those shoes isn’t the easiest task. My goal: to make it as hard as possible to notice that someone else is in charge! Even though Klas put in a tremendous amount of work to make things as smooth as possible for me—just "click through the snapshots and tracks"—there’s always something unpredictable that comes up. Navigating those surprises on a tight schedule can be stressful and challenging. And if nothing happens, there’s always the anticipation of what might! Thankfully, Klas was working on another TV show and was able to provide online support throughout the day. After 13 hours of rehearsals and the 2-hour live broadcast to nearly 1 million viewers (quite something for a country of just over 5M!), when the credits rolled, I felt like I’d just run a marathon—but crossed the finish line! Stepping out of my comfort zone every now and then can be rewarding, but I must admit, getting back to my own zone as a system technician feels pretty good right about now. #SteppingOutOfTheComfortZone #LiveTV #BroadcastEngineering #Teamwork #ChallengeAccepted #TanssiiTähtienKanssa #digico #abletonlive

Streaming services, especially Netflix, spend unfathomable amounts of money on content that won't make a profit. Netflix isn't alone; Apple, Disney, NBC, and other big names joined the gold rush. I purposefully use the word “content.” Streaming pioneered the practice of leveraging algorithms to monitor viewer behavior and using that data to generate ideas for new movies and shows with maximum targeted appeal. This doesn’t mean all streaming video is bad. I’ve enjoyed plenty of great streaming content. Streamers have funded award-winning films, and streaming reality trash has its place, too. However, quality was never the most important element, just increasing subscribers. And once there are no more subscribers left and the line can’t go up, things can only go down. Tubi isn't an Editors’ Choice award winner and one of our favorite products of the year simply because it's an ad-supported, free streaming service. It also sidesteps many modern streaming missteps.
