The perfect photo is often a little imperfect. For example, these chicken slices from Volys are not on a completely clean table. Herbs off the plate, a glass near the top. The dish also isn't arranged perfectly. Its ingredients are scattered around the dish, seemingly at random. But all that's intentional. It's what makes the food feel natural and approachable. Had everything been aligned perfectly, it wouldn't have felt that way. Of course, you need to understand what the brand wants. Some brands prefer strict and sharp images of their food, and that's fine too. But most brands want their #foodphotography to look natural. So you add a little bit of imperfection to the photo. Ironically, that's usually what makes it perfect.

One of my goals in food photography is to evoke emotions in the viewer, raising that desire so the target audience takes action immediately ie booking a seat, buying a dish or online pressing the "buy it now" button! Creating commercially focused images that convert visitors into paying customers in any genre is not Simply about pressing a shutter, there is so much more that goes into it. In 2024, we’re prioritizing something long overdue - seasonal menu tastings with PHOTOGRAPHY. Seasonal menu tastings help our sales team know what our menu items taste like, look like, and what needs to be taken into consideration for the preparation of each dish. They also help our culinary team set a standard for the preparation and presentation of each menu item, or make changes to the recipes based on our feedback. While these tastings aren’t new for us, we have never invested in professional food photography. And it’s high time that we did! Having great photos of our food helps our clients decide what to order and envision their event. It helps our sales and marketing teams create inspiring and up to date marketing materials. And it helps our culinary teams record the exact plating and garnish that makes each dish uniquely beautiful. This first seasonal menu photoshoot with Mandee Rae was everything we wanted and more!
