A lot of the time (and fair enough) with garment printing no one wants to know how the sausage (or in this case - printed tee/hoodie) is made. But if you know the process & think creatively, there's a heap of way you can use it to your advantage. Digital garment printing is a big one on this. Why Direct-to-Film (DTF) Printing is Revolutionising Branded Clothing In the world of custom apparel printing, Direct-to-Film (DTF) technology is making waves as a versatile, cost-effective alternative to traditional methods like Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing and screen printing. The process involves printing designs onto a transparent film carrier, which is then coated with a fine TPU adhesive powder and cured to perfection. Afterward, the print is transferred onto the fabric using an industrial heat press, ensuring sharp, vibrant designs with a soft, durable finish. Why DTF Stands Out One of the standout advantages of DTF printing is the minimal waste it generates. You can order exactly what you need, which is perfect for small runs or custom jobs. DTF technology eliminates the need for pre-treatment, a common headache in DTG printing, especially when using white ink. The TPU powder does the work, making the process cleaner and more efficient. The soft, water-based inks used in DTF prints provide a high-quality, tactile finish that’s often preferred over the thicker feel of other printing methods. Best of all, the transfer process only takes about 15 seconds with the right heat press settings, making it a fast option for production. Versatility Across Fabrics DTF’s flexibility is another major selling point. Unlike DTG, which works best on cotton, DTF can be applied to a wide range of fabrics, including cotton, polyester, blends, denim, leather, and even materials like canvas and cork. Whether you’re printing on sportswear, PPE, or high-visibility apparel, DTF can handle it all with ease. The technology is not only suited for a wider variety of textiles but also works on both light and dark fabrics without the need for special treatments or expensive papers. DTF printing is an exciting innovation in personalised workwear. It combines the benefits of high-quality, full-colour printing with a simplified process that’s both eco-friendly and cost-effective. Whether you’re a small business looking for affordable customisation or a larger operation in need of efficiency, DTF is a game-changer in the world of digital workwear printing.
