How do you recognize a Super Tuscan? Despite their exceptional quality, Super Tuscans were initially labeled as a simple country wine - Vino da Tavola - for many years, as they didn't play by Tuscany's traditional rules. But in 1992, they were finally given their quality classification, IGT - Indicazione Geografica Tipica - leading to a surge in their popularity and a massive boost in sales. Sassicaia stands out among the Super Tuscans as it was granted its own DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) in 1994, named Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. This designation acknowledges it as a unique blend from the Bolgheri region in Tuscany and places it in the high-quality rating, corresponding to the IGT category. Today, Super Tuscans are some of the best-performing wines on the fine wine market. #Tuscany #WineInvestment #FineWine #Grapes #SuperTuscan #Italy #WineMaking #IGT #Merlot #Cabernet

📝Appealing fresh fruit aromas and floral scents. Refreshing acidity with medium body and chalky tannins, precise palate rounded and approachable but also with some layers of complexity and medium depth of flavors. This is the tasting note elaborated by our jury for the selected wine of Cantina Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano S.C.A. 🍷 #5StarWines2023 #WineWithoutWalls2023 #5StarWinestheBook #ItalianWinery #ItalianWine #VinoItaliano

Foolishly I attempt to make predictions knowing that anything can happen to disrupt these. And no doubt there are another 5 trends that I should have included. But after a decade in the industry, I thought it was time to speculate. Hope you enjoy this read. Cheers to 2024 and wineries that are making a difference and those waiting to be discovered. #wine #winebusiness #climatechange #innovation #champagne #italy #nonalcoholic https://lnkd.in/gVrZDtfY

📝Bright straw yellow. On the nose the wine shows aromatic herbs, sage, apricot and fruit candy drops. The palate is elegant and well balanced. It is an easy going drinkable wine with a medium length. WINE OUTLOOK 2024: IS IT REALLY SO BRUTISH? WineBusiness Monthly has a compact but substantial overview of the current "challenging" wine industry, as well as a prognosis for the near term. Some of the challenges are demographic, some are health-related, some are economic/financial, some are simply unpleasant market facts. - Well-off consumers are buying more high-priced wines; others are trading way down. Sales of middle-tier wines are hurting as a result. - Despite economists' assertions that we've had a "soft landing," many consumers still face financial straits and have cut discretionary spending like wine. Many have also used up financial cushions received during COVID. - There are more beverage alcohol choices today, particularly ready-to-drink (RTD) #cocktails, #hardseltzers, bitter spirits, and low/no-alcohol wines. - Regarding on-premise sales, there are 10% fewer restaurants in the U.S. following COVID. - There appears to be a strong and growing movement against any alcohol consumption for health reasons, with a repetition from the World Health Organization: "when it comes to alcohol consumption, there is no safe amount that does not affect health." Market tidbits: - #PasoRobles, in California's Central Valley, continues to grow the quality and prestige of its offerings, and therefore the reputation and market power of its 11 sub-AVAs. - #Napa grape and wine prices continue to grow. WineBusiness Monthly Analytics recently showed an average Napa price of $85 across all varieties compared to $47 for the CA Central Coast—a two-to-one difference. - #DTC sales via tasting rooms were down, some by as much as 30 to 40%. - White wine sales are growing, and for the first time white wine has overtaken red wine in popularity. Gains came from strong demand for #SauvignonBlanc at virtually every price point and #PinotGrigio and #Chardonnay <$15. - Consumer interest in #organicwines is increasing, and more wineries from tiny to major are offering at least one line of organics. - Some major producers are already in the lower-alcohol game, with new entrants joining. - Several large producers are ditching a multiple-wholesaler strategy in favor a single, national #wholesaler. What's to Come? (including other sources) - Hundreds of thousands of tons of California grapes were not crushed in the 2023 harvest, and there's a lot of discussion--that will continue--around "grubbing up" (uprooting) vines to offset overproduction. - As a sign of glut, last summer Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, the Northwest’s largest winery, told its growers that it would take in 40% less fruit over the coming five years. - Last month, Sokol Blosser Winery led the way in releasing its first wine with new nutrition and ingredient labeling. More U.S. wineries will follow. https://lnkd.in/e5-canrU
