If you are a Manufacturing Engineer in WNY with 5-10 years experience looking for something new but unsure what is out there, or where to start, reach out to our team! The market is looking great in this space, and odds are we have something. QUICK NOTE- #1 piece of advice before entering a "hot" market where things can move quickly and people will jump at your skills: talk to your current employer about your pain points. If you enjoy your current role but may be unhappy with one or two small things, bring that to your current management team before dedicating yourself to making a move. No role is perfect. Save the time and see what is possible in your current position, then you can evaluate if its time to explore something new.

Update on my job situation. I have now spent a few months finding myself, accepting my situation, and started to consider what my future job opportunity could be. After some considerations, I have decided to pursue opportunities within my core competences in plast production, development of plast components, raw materials, support, and sourcing. I am looking for opportunities as PT Engineer or Technical Project manager or maybe something else that I am not even considering. I have spent almost 22 years working with plast, in development, production, sourcing etc., and I do enjoy this business and industry, so I hope that I somehow can find a new seat in a new and great company. What do I bring with me? · Experience in Design For Manufacturing · Experience in injection molding, process- and part evaluation · Problem solving on plast components, process, molding tool, suppliers. · Run-in of molding tools, error finding on plast parts, molding tool etc. · Some knowhow on plast materials and production equipment · Teamwork across function to secure the best solution. · Technical project management · And according to my wife and son…. A different kind of humor I would be grateful if my network could help me sharing this post, and have me on your mind, the next time a job opportunity fitting my profile comes up. Best regards Peter Alexandersen ______________________________________________________________________________ Time for new adventures Due to Danfoss economy, Danfoss had to cut down on cost, which also means lay off staff. In my case it meant that I was laid off last week together with other Danfoss colleagues. So, after 16 years at Danfoss, I am looking into new opportunities and new challenges, with an open mind. I have had 16 good years at Danfoss, and looking back, it is quite interesting to see how I have changed and developed my job, my responsibility, and the way of working over these 16 years. It has been 16 years of optimizing the way of working, to fit the R&D development plans and challenges. So now with 21 years in the plast industry, development and plast production, I am phasing… now what? So, while I am considering my future, I am also turning to my network, to see if my future and new challenges are located here. So, if you know someone, who might know someone…. Please let me know… Meanwhile I will be surfing the internet for opportunities, exiting companies etc. for inspiration on what to do now.

Yesterday someone said to me that the true Engineering Managers job description is: To enable really smart people to make them look good. I think in truth there is a bit more to it than that phrase. I like that they have included the word 'enable' and that they are highlighting really smart people. If I had to try and rewrite this in the same vain perhaps: To empower and enable really smart people to achieve business outcomes and deliver business value. How you empower and enable those is the art of Engineering Management.

Engineering leaders that want their teams to move faster or produce better results should do one specific activity - invest 2-3 weeks with your team time tracking each day and then do a retrospective: 1 - How much time was spent in meetings vs value-added engineering work? (Equally important to define what constitutes the latter!) 2 - How many hours of meetings should have been skipped? Make a guess before you collate the results 🙂 I bet you’ll be surprised. Before you go hiring more people or cost cutting - kill more meetings! Folks that aren’t familiar with Dovetail Product Development may doubt that the value is worth the cost. Yes - we do have best practices, experienced engineers, and specific tools and know how to amplify the effectivity of our work. But even more fundamentally, our team is spending just under 90% of their time focused on engineering, building or testing hardware and doing so in large blocks of time. How do we know? We’ve tracked all our time spent the last 8 months. And we know we win in this category. Plus - why are great engineers talking to us about joining? Because we are hiring great engineers to do engineering 🤯

Filling the Pipeline for Engineering & Manufacturing Innovators through Strategic Business Development & Content Strategy | Engineering Consultant + Technical Marketer | Jazz Saxophonist
Not all stereotypes are accurate. But based on preconceptions of what engineers are and do… People assume we’re boring. For most of my career leading business development in engineering: - I was put into the “boring technical guy” bucket - I repeatedly take technical info & find consumable info - I think about specs & what matters most to each buyer Today, I bring the same SME-level leadership to in-house engineering marketing teams. My take? It’s rare for an engineer to be able to translate complex R&D topics. Especially in a way broad audiences can understand. But engineers also carry a lot of credibility based on the complexity of our discipline. The preconception led me to: - Gain the trust of client SME to talk peer-to-peer - Surprise commercial teams by telling their own story - Finding new ways to connect products, tech, and people with marketing Boring? (up for debate) But you’d have to add another word to the same sentence. Results. I’m a self-admitted engineer. And I’d be happy to describe the importance of what you’ve created in a way you’d never expect. Stereotypes make me smile. Sincerely, A technical, boring engineer (who gets results)
