🌱 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗣 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? 🌱 At the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) annual conference Andrés Hernández San Martín (Repsol), Cristina Aparicio Peña, PhD. (Siemens Gamesa) and Yolanda Fernandez Montes (EDP), moderated by Marta Luengo Macián, answered this question. Andrés emphasized the crucial role of 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 (𝗜𝗣) in advancing Repsol’s ambition to achieve 𝗻𝗲𝘁-𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟱𝟬. 🔑 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 1. 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Technologies in their early stages require substantial risk investments. IP rights, particularly patents and utility models, grant exclusive rights that safeguard at least a portion of these investments. 🛡️ 2. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: It's crucial to explore all available technologies. Patents serve dual purposes here: - As a rich source of information (up to 80% of current technical knowledge is found in patents, according to the EPO). - As a network tool, i.e., to identify key players in each technology field by looking at patent citations. 🔍 3. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗣 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Andrés emphasized the importance of fostering an IP culture within the organization to meet their IP commitments, including respecting third-party IP assets and ensuring that employees understand the significance of protecting the company's IP. Initiatives include training programs, an extensive intranet hub, specialized courses, and IP-focused communications, alongside inventor awards and a comprehensive regulatory framework. 🏆 4. 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: A prime example is the Legal Team, where the IP Department has begun using a generative AI platform called Harvey, making them the first Spanish in-house legal team to adopt such technology. This step is part of the transformative Protea Project in the Legal Division. 🚀 5. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀: Open innovation programs are essential for collaborating with third parties to develop technologies aimed at reducing emissions. 🤝 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨! #energytransition #iprights #emissions #connectedwegofurther #ipwithclaudiatapia
