My 5th year into startups: - Go for angels before vcs - Don’t customise pitch decks for investors, don’t do their jobs for them; you want to find someone who believes you for who you are - No business cards, connect with urgency: Message? How can startups thrive in 2024? Today, we kicked off the early stage startups local program with a value-driven event where we answered this question and more. The Microsoft GrowthX accelerator program’s mission is to connect startups with the best of Microsoft and help them scale. The virtual program supports qualifying startups across 4 pillars: 1. Acquiring your first customers can feel overwhelming. Conventional wisdom suggests leveraging social networks, but for early-stage startups, this approach may fall short as potential customers can be wary of prototype-quality products they find online. For me, the most effective strategy for acquiring initial customers was talking to strangers face-to-face. Despite the effort it entails, attending meetups and conferences results in a high conversion rate. Surprisingly, a brief, five-minute conversation can be all it takes to persuade someone to try your product. The cherry on top was my recent encounter with an investor who ran into one of our customers at one of the local events. This unexpected development was very helpful and encouraging.
