To those who've already secured summer 2024 internships or new grad roles, I have one piece of advice for you. 💡 CONTINUE to take advantage of the career development opportunities your school offers. ✅ If your school has a Spring 2024 Career Fair, register and attend. ✅ If your school is hosting an event with a speaker or representative from a specific company, register and attend. ✅ If your school is hosting a visit to a specific company's office to meet with fellow alumni, register and attend. The truth is, you don't know where the people you meet at such opportunities could take you one day. Treat such opportunities as door-opening opportunities. The more doors you have open, the more career opportunities you'll have at your disposal. Recently had an incredible experience at the University of Technology Sydney's Autumn Graduate and Internship Career Fair! It was an enriching opportunity connecting with industry leaders, exploring various career paths, and expanding my professional network. One highlight of the event was having the pleasure of connecting with the esteemed industry professional Kim Evans from Aurecon. Our conversation was insightful and inspiring, offering valuable insights into the field and potential career paths. Events like these truly underscore the importance of attending career fairs at universities, especially for international postgraduate students like myself. Here's why: 1. Last Spring, 65% of virtual fair attendees on Handshake were students of color. But guess what? There’s another reason why it’s to every company’s benefit to include virtual fairs in your talent attraction strategy. Nearly 3% of college students study abroad each year. That’s almost 400,000 candidates who you can ONLY reach virtually, and they may be some of the strongest candidates you can hire for next summer’s or next year’s internships, co-ops, and entry-level roles. There are tons of talented, diverse, and study-abroad candidates you cannot reach if you only rely on in-person career fairs. Keep that in mind ;).

When it comes to career growth, are you asking the right questions? Sure, by now you know to research the companies you're interested in and to show up in your Sunday best, but are you asking questions that will truly help you find the right opportunity for you? ❓🤔   With career fairs, industry days, and networking sessions right around the corner, the opportunity to discuss potential employment can be daunting. Whether you're inquiring about an open position or already interviewing, making sure you're asking questions about your fit at the company is essential. 🤝💼   This list is far from exhaustive, but it may help you develop questions about what your experience may actually look like. You can always find information about the company and job listings online, but you can't ask questions about culture, growth, and team dynamics without the opportunity to speak with someone from the team.
