It can be surprisingly easy to forget that the data feeding machine learning in healthcare is made of real people suffering from real health conditions. It's when everything becomes a data point that our attention turns toward algorithms and away from the underlying meaning of the data. Funny enough, focusing on that underlying meaning often improves the quality of the solutions that we build. Empathy has its place in healthcare data science. This is why I encourage anyone building predictive models (healthcare or not) to focus on the impact their models have. You may find that doing this can manifest in your feature engineering and ultimately improve your end product. #healthcare #data #datascience #analytics #bigdata
