I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Susan Wojcicki this weekend after her two-year battle with lung cancer. Susan was an exceptional business leader, first at Google and later as the CEO of YouTube. Her journey from renting out her garage to Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin to becoming a pivotal part of the company’s growth is nothing short of inspiring. I also admire her role as the first Google employee to take maternity leave, which paved the way for better parental leave policies and a more inclusive workplace environment. But what resonates with me the most is her commitment to improving YouTube, particularly her vision of the platform as a hub for education. As an "Edutuber," I've witnessed firsthand the positive changes her leadership brought in democratizing education and enhancing the quality of educational content on YouTube. My thoughts are with Susan's family and loved ones during this difficult time. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide those of us who strive to make a positive impact in the world 💛

Many Post Impressions and Zero Likes? This #post itself might receive 0 #likes but have over 500 #impressions in about a week's time. Why is that? I’ll start by putting myself on the line: after some self-reflection, I’ve realized that often, I’m not truly influenced by the content of a post itself but by how many people liked, reposted, or shared it. It might be one of the simplest posts, or even a post I don’t entirely agree with, but because many people liked it, I want to be part of the trend too. This then begs the question: are you liking because you genuinely want to, or because many others have liked it? Which one is it? Leave a comment

Yesterday, leaders from Meta, X, Discord, TikTok, and Snap faced the US Senate over child safety online. A critical moment for tech accountability. Zuckerberg and Spiegel expressed sorrow for the impact on families. All CEOs showcased efforts to protect kids. Snap's Spiegel backed the Kids Online Safety Act. With clear consensus on the need for stronger child safety measures online. 🔍 The big takeaway? Apologies are a start, but real action is what's needed to make the digital world safer for our kids. #ChildSafety #SocialMedia #SenateHearing #DigitalWellbeing #TechAccountability

Reposting for my amazing friend, if we could help in anyway please do..❤️ ***************************** Good afternoon I'm contacting you from FosterWiki to ask for your help. We have just launched a new survey for foster carers and would love your help in sharing it with your foster carers. It will give us all vital feedback regarding retention, recruitment and outcomes for children at a time when this information is so needed. We know there are other surveys, this is not in competition with them, we feel they are all equally important and influential and all have a different contribution to make. Our survey's value is in it's unique viewpoint, with questions devised by the foster carer community themselves, important questions regarding issues that affect them and the children they care for. When the survey has ended we will send you a full report on the findings and hope you will find it helpful. The survey is anonymous and does not collect data regarding individual providers, but hopefully will give a great overall picture If you could share this it would be amazing link to the survey

“Queensland Mums on a Mission!” We sure are! Our Co-Founders and Directors of Mackenzie and Fiona had the pleasure of talking to The Today Show's Sylvia Jeffreys and David Campbell about how to help parents navigate this new world of raising digital natives. “Social media age bans are a vital part of the puzzle...but the work has to start with parents in the home." - Co-Founder Mackenzie Forrester shares. The duo offered five key takeaways for parents to think and action, which we deep dive in all of our community conversations and parent workshops. 1. Start the conversation. With other parents. With your children. Don’t be afraid to raise questions ahead of a playdate or sleepover, "my child won't be bringing an ipad to the playdate, hope that's okay?" 2. Start with yourself. Like sponges, our kids pick up everything we put down. Or don’t put down for that matter. Like our phones. So how can you model better screentime behaviors? 3. Create a family digital health plan. Get everyone to contribute and build it together. We have great, free, resources to get you started! 4. Ride, practice, drive. We love our seatbelt analogy for your family's digital road map. Don’t just hand your kids the keys to the internet; practice and put put guard rails in place. 5. More green less screen. What else can you be doing away from screens? Nature, outdoor and unstructured play, boredom as a gateway to creativity, chores to build life skills. We hope you enjoyed watching the segment and can’t wait to share with you even more exciting news to come. Visit our website for more tools, resources and tips on how to navigate these tricky conversations. Microsoft has agreed to pay $14 million to settle a probe by the California Civil Rights Department. The agency alleged that the company illegally penalized workers who took medical or family-care leave. Microsoft denied wrongdoing, but agreed to settle to avoid further legal action. The probe found that Microsoft retaliated against employees who used parental, disability, pregnancy, and family-care leave since 2017. The company allegedly denied them raises, promotions, and stock awards, disproportionately affecting women and people with disabilities. The settlement must be approved by a state judge and would resolve a multi-year investigation. Microsoft will pay $14.4 million and hire an independent consultant to ensure non-discriminatory leave policies. The company will also provide training to managers and HR personnel. Microsoft stated that it is committed to providing an environment that supports employees' leave needs. The settlement is the latest in a series of large settlements by tech companies in California, including Riot Games, Activision Blizzard, and Snap. . . . #MicrosoftSettlement #CaliforniaCivilRights #EmployeeLeave #DiscriminationProbe #TechCompanySettlements #tribunetrends

Education leader, curriculum and training architect, content creator and community builder. Founder of Tinkergarten.
After last week’s testimony to congress, I’ve been reflecting on how to help all kids grow up safe and whole in our digital world. Where do the answer and the responsibility lie? What is the right mix of corporate accountability, education and just plain filling-kids’-buckets that can ensure kids truly thrive? After turning it over, the focus for my team's work feels more clear than ever. How do you feel about it? What are you prioritizing?

Remember when I launched the 'Council on Social Media Relations ( Florida Based ) I was dragged for 2 years so I started the Social Media Research Institute ? 🤌🏾 It’s time to revive that initiative, but on a much larger scale. What needs to happen now is that all major tech companies come together under a unified global collaborative the Council On Social Media Relations (Global). This isn’t just about gathering around a table; it’s about creating a framework where these companies can collaborate, share insights, and address the pressing challenges that social media poses on a global level. Corporations like the Social Media Research Institute would play a crucial role in facilitating these efforts, working alongside other companies that represent different countries. Together, we could shape policies, influence industry standards, and drive meaningful change in how social media impacts society. Imagine the impact of such a collaboration a truly global effort to address issues like misinformation, data privacy, and social media addiction. This isn’t just a vision; it’s a necessary step forward. The potential here is enormous. ✔️ #LetsGo"
We were honored to host the members of our inaugural Council for Digital Well-Being and their chaperones at Snap HQ last month for an in-person summit! The jam-packed few days included breakout sessions, group discussions, mentorship opportunities, guest speakers, and more, uncovering interesting insights on topics such as online pitfalls, parental tools, and digital and in-person social dynamics. We’re excited to continue to engage with the Council Members and to share additional learnings in the future. Hear from the teens and learn more about the Summit. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/er2YiCdV
