CHIPS for America has announced that Norfolk State University President Javaune Adams-Gaston, Ph.D., has been selected to serve on the U.S. Department of Commerce Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC). IAC provides advice on the science and technology needs of the nation’s domestic microelectronics industry, the national strategy on microelectronics research, the research and development programs and other advanced microelectronics activities funded through CHIPS for America, and opportunities for new public-private partnerships. The committee, comprised of leaders from a broad range of disciplines in the microelectronics field, including academia, the semiconductor industry, federal laboratories and other areas, provides guidance to the Secretary of Commerce in support of achieving CHIPS for America’s ambitious R&D goals. Members of the IAC serve three-year terms with new terms typically beginning each October. Many thanks to the team at Micron Technology's Manassas, Virginia office for hosting members of the VAST team and students from our Chip Fabrication program. Students toured Micron's cleanrooms and learned how chips are manufactured on a large scale. The tour served as the students final hands-on lab as they completed the first cohort of the Fast Track to Semiconductor Careers certificate program.

Registration is NOW OPEN for two VAST Fast Track to Semiconductor Careers certificate programs: Chip Fabrication and Nano Characterization and Semiconductor Packaging and Characterization. The programs include 40 hours of synchronous and asynchronous online lectures and up to 60 hours of hands-on, in-person lab training.
