The Biden-Harris Administration has allocated $8.2 billion in new funding for 10 major passenger train projects across the U.S., with one high-speed rail line connecting Atlanta to Charlotte. Part of the Investing in America program, this initiative aims to create a planning framework for seven high-speed rail projects, marking a historic move. The Atlanta project, with an unspecified route between the city and Charlotte, is expected to generate jobs, offer faster travel options, boost economic opportunities, and reduce emissions. The feasibility of three commercial passenger rail routes branching from Atlanta will be studied with $1.5 million allocated. The broader plan allocates $66 billion to enhance American infrastructure and global competitiveness. Key projects include high-speed rail between California and Nevada, a Los Angeles-San Francisco line, and upgrades to existing rail routes in various states. #katiesellsatlanta #atlanta #charlottenc #masstransit #highspeedrail #atlantadevelopment #jobcreation #jobs #greenjobs #infrastructure

Credit to James Bickerton Jun 23, 2024 America is Embracing High-Speed Rail - Newsweek https://lnkd.in/gHqQb7hH Picture Credit to https://lnkd.in/gY9Ytxrd American voters overwhelmingly support the construction of new high-speed railways across the country according to a new poll conducted exclusively for Newsweek. The survey found 60 percent of eligible voters back additional construction against just seven percent who are opposed, with a majority also backing a ban on short-haul flights which can be covered by rail in less than two and a half hours. A new 171-mile high-speed line linking San Francisco and Los Angeles is currently being built by the California High-Speed Rail Authority, which hopes to later extend it to Sacramento and San Diego. Separately work began in April on a new 218-mile high-speed railway between Las Vegas in Nevada and southern California. In Texas there are proposals for two new high-speed lines connecting Dallas to both Houston and Fort Worth, though they remain in the preliminary stages.

In the world of transportation infrastructure, challenges - like a bridge closure - can seem daunting, overwhelming, and even a little discouraging. But sometimes, those challenges present opportunities, and when all is said and done, what started as a looming mountain emerges on the other side as a positive example of the power of teamwork and community. Major upgrades are in the pipeline for Baltimore's Penn Station with a $108 million investment! This transformative initiative encompasses the restoration of the historic station headhouse, utility system updates, and the construction of a new entrance, train hall, waiting area, and operational facilities. This substantial infrastructure funding is part of President Biden's groundbreaking announcement of $16.4 billion for 25 passenger rail projects on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. It marks a significant stride towards realizing his vision for world-class passenger rail in the United States. The Northeast Corridor, stretching from Boston, MA, to Washington, DC, stands as the most heavily traveled rail corridor in the country, supporting an impressive 800,000 trips per day. This crucial stretch contributes to 20 percent of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product, serving the bustling metro areas of DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. As cities and metropolitan areas grow, they increase their needs for a variety of infrastructure, including multiple transportation options. Axios ran a story this summer about multimodal infrastructure for the Research Triangle area in North Carolina. and the federal funding recently provided for it. Has your community or region been developing long-term plans to provide the transportation infrastructure it will require for a sustainable future? Transit options are usually only supported after great effort. While perusing through other stories on transportation, I also found one on the desire to restart a Southern rail line from Mobile to New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina took out that link and politics and other obstacles have interfered with a revived Amtrak line between those two points. Are there other possibilities for rail service which would connect those cities, such as more inland routes with spokes reaching out to coastal cities? #transportation #infrastructure #regionalexpansion #urbangrowth #transit #rail #passengerrail #transportationgrid https://lnkd.in/eczrxM-X
