I would like to celebrate the closure of the second edition of the course in Economics and Managment for Earth Resources 🎓 as part of the Master ELSTE (jointly delivered MSc program in Earth Sciences by UniGe and UniL) delivered at the Department of Earth Sciences - UNIGE. A big thank you to Nicolas Leseur for his insightful lecture at the University of Geneva on the Impact of Subsurface Uncertainties on the Economics of Resources Projects. 🌍 Applied to geothermal, mining, and oil & gas projects, this session provided students with practical tools to assess uncertainty propagation from data acquisition to cash flow analysis. The session also fostered open discussions on subsurface risks and mitigation measures, both in Switzerland and globally. Extending beyond techno-economic considerations, the lecture highlighted the complexities of trade-offs and decision-making under partial information. A big thank also to Christian Minnig from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy and Tim Hemsted form Orbis Global Geonergy for sharing their valuable experience from the "real world". Research project is developing deeper critical raw material exploration. To enhance the responsible supply of raw materials, UNDERCOVER project aims to create a paradigm shift in the exploration of deep critical raw materials. 🔹 This will be done by transforming the mineral systems concept into the first viable strategy for systematically exploring CRM deposits hidden deeper in the bedrock. 🔹 The project will develop and integrate novel geophysical technologies and methods that are both cost-effective and environmentally friendly. 🔹 Actions will be implemented to address and mitigate ESG aspects of mineral exploration at all stages. 🔹 The use of the United Nations Framework for Classification (UNFC) will be promoted to introduce a more innovative, effective, and socially and environmentally responsible exploration strategy. 📢 Exciting Research Update! 📢 I'm thrilled to announce the publication of my latest paper 'The migration of hydrogen in sedimentary basins' 🚀🔬. I will also be presenting this paper at the Australian Energy Producers (AEP) Conference in Perth, Western Australia, next week (20-23 May). Understanding the mechanisms behind large-scale hydrogen migration is crucial for natural hydrogen exploration and effective hydrogen storage. Our research dives deep into the fascinating journey of hydrogen through geological basins, exploring how this element travels through the Earth's subsurface over timescales ranging from thousands of years to mere days. In our study, we: 🔍 Reviewed the nature and timescale of hydrogen migration in various rock types. 🧬 Examined the impact of microbial activity and environmental factors like salinity, temperature, and pressure. 📊 Calculated maximum vertical velocity for key rock types such as sandstone and micrite. ⚖️ Discussed the pivotal role of capillary pressure in controlling hydrogen migration in sedimentary rocks. 💡 Explored the potential of causal analysis methods to unravel complex processes in hydrogen systems. 🏞️ Highlighted the challenges of conventional reservoir modelling for accurately predicting hydrogen migration. 📖 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dM3brBa2.
