A couple of days ago, SportAccord sent on pictures and a thanks to the panel I was chuffed to moderate. A very busy week has passed since I got back to NZ, but the panel conversation is worth a mention. We landed here, or thereabouts: the needs and wants of international federations, city and national destinations, and the public are constantly changing – and not uniformly. Factors such as geography, economy, environment, and life cycle make those needs and wants different for everyone. It’s in the sweet spot of overlap of those needs and wants where the most successful (in the broadest sense) events lie. And it follows, with all those variables, that a rule book for delivery passed from host to host is unlikely to land there by chance. Partnership, collaboration, open discussion and flexibility. That’s what leads to the best outcomes for everyone. Thanks to James Bulley, Katie Sadleir, Esther Britten, Perttu Pesä, as well as David Eades, Holly Norton, SportAccord, Joel Lavery and the team at Birmingham for making it happen.
